Overview:
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Senior Workers' Compensation Manager to join their team at a leading consumer products company. This role requires expertise in managing workers' compensation claims, coordinating with vendors, and implementing effective safety strategies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience as an insurance adjuster or broker, with a proven track record of managing claims both internally and externally. Additionally, experience in safety management is a plus. This senior position will oversee a Workers' Compensation Specialist and will play a pivotal role in driving claims resolution and risk mitigation strategies across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Claims Management: Oversee the entire lifecycle of workers' compensation claims, ensuring efficient resolution and timely closures. Review claims bills, manage vendors, and collaborate with third-party administrators (TPAs) to ensure accurate processing and cost control.
- Vendor & TPA Management: Manage relationships with insurance carriers (Sentry) and brokers (Marsh), attorneys, and vendors to ensure optimal claims handling. Advise leadership on settlement strategies and help negotiate favorable claim outcomes.
- Strategic Advisory: Act as a senior advisor to leadership (including Ozzie) on claims strategy, settlement decisions, and risk management initiatives. Offer expert guidance on claims closure, ensuring both cost-effective and favorable resolutions.
- Safety & Risk Mitigation: Collaborate with safety and risk teams to identify claim trends and areas for improvement. Help develop and implement safety best practices, driving injury prevention efforts and reducing claims frequency.
- Supervision & Team Development: Lead and mentor a Workers' Compensation Specialist, ensuring high-quality employee interactions, follow-ups, and case management. Guide the team in maintaining strong employee communication throughout the claims process.
- Systems Improvement: Work with existing claims management systems (Sentry’s database and Google Sheets) to streamline processes. Advise on potential system upgrades or technology solutions to enhance operational efficiency and data accuracy.
- Legal & Compliance Coordination: Collaborate with attorneys and adjusters to ensure legal and regulatory compliance in all claims-related activities. Provide guidance on potential legal challenges and mitigate risks through proactive claim management.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 15 years of experience in workers' compensation and insurance claims management, either as an adjuster or broker. Extensive experience managing both internal claims processes and external vendor relationships is essential.
- Safety & Risk Expertise: Strong background in safety management is a plus, with experience in driving safety initiatives and reducing risk within the workplace.
- Leadership Experience: Proven ability to lead and manage a team, including mentoring and providing guidance to a Workers' Compensation Specialist.
- Bilingual (Spanish): Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required, as the role will involve some employee interaction, particularly with injured workers.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in industries with high-volume hourly populations, managing 150-200 open claims simultaneously, and handling large-scale employee populations (3,000 employees).
- Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with claims management software, as well as Google Sheets or similar systems. Ability to recommend and implement process improvements and technology upgrades.
