Financial Systems Advisor
Department of Finance
Hourly Wage: $29.70/Regular/Full-Time
The Financial Systems Advisor is responsible for providing a variety of technical accounting, financial and administrative support to the Chief Financial Officer (Deputy Director of Finance) and the Finance Office. Responsible for greeting and welcoming guests, receiving, and delivering all incoming and outgoing mail and packages, answering all calls, and directing as needed, scheduling meetings, and coordinating office activities. Also, responsible for applying a thorough knowledge of department accounting functions to implement, integrate, troubleshoot, and maintain the Yakama Nation government financial software and workflow, which includes processes the support of accounts payable, accounts receivable, accounting, bank reconciliation, budget tracking, fixed assets, general ledger, purchase requisitions, project tracking, related reporting, document tracking, and approvals. Provide financial information to management, analyze accounting, finance transactions, and evaluate source documentation. Must be able to summarize and effectively communicate accounting and finance information both orally and in writing. Works closely with Finance and Accounting staff to ensure validity of accounting processes, procedures, financial reporting, and data to ensure optimal use of accounting and finance resources.
Examples of Work Performed:
Designs accounting reports in response to Yakama Nation reporting needs and verifies the validity of data in reports.
Analyze accounting transactions, supporting documentation and ability to independently create reports to assist management in resolving finance related issues.
Preparing other accounting, statistical, and financial reports.
Reconciling financial accounts.
Interfaces with external auditors and assists with providing information including data extracts, reports as needed.
Capable of providing support to financial users in running queries, loading data, generating new reports, closing financial systems.
Ability to effectively communicate complex accounting analysis, both orally and in writing.
Responsible for assisting in the preparation, development and implementation of the annual governmental budget and modification.
Plans and provides, or arranges training classes, for staff as needed on the use of Yakama Nation Financial Accounting software. Includes initial training for new users, training on new processes or training to groups on specific functionality. Develops user procedures, guidelines, and documentation.
Regularly attend training sessions to stay up to date with regulatory and guideline changes.
Responsible to ensure that financial accounting software user profiles and access are current and up- to date minimizing risk of unauthorized access.
Responsible to assist with administrative and accounting functions of the Finance Office, including the scheduling of appointments and meetings, organizing meeting reports, materials, agendas, and minute taking, drafting correspondence, coordinating travel arrangements, processing purchase orders, memorandum letters and logging of documents.
Assists with the preparation of monthly reports for all user groups.
Performs other related work of a similar level.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Governmental Fund Accounting, and auditing practices and principles.
Knowledge of governmental accounting, budgeting, and organizational structure with strong computer skills, including workflow, approvals, and controls for financial accounting software.
Ability to create and customize finance and accounting reports.
Ability to analyze complex accounting data, summarize and present information both orally and in writing.
Ability to create complex spreadsheets, forms, and graphs in excel.
Ability to draft technical training materials, correspondence and provide training.
Ability to self-manage workload and handle rapidly changing priorities effectively; must be able to
discern when issues should be escalated.
Ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in preparing and entering financial
information.
Ability to handle a wide variety of demanding and complex issues.
Ability to demonstrate a high degree of personal integrity.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Ability to communicate in both orally and written form.
Ability to use Microsoft Office Software products with proficiency.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, YN personnel, supervisor/mangers, elected officials, and the general public.
Must be able to type, calculate and input data with speed and accuracy.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor' s Degree in Accounting, Business, or related field and/or with three of years experience in a similar position.
Must pass a pre-employment background check.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Preferred Requirements:
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
