Resource Worker I (2) Two Positions
Tribal Forestry
Department of Natural Resources
Hourly Wage: $15.90/Temporary/Full-Time
Location: WSFD- White Swan, WA
Position functions under the Yakama Nation, Division of Natural Resources Tribal Forestry. The Yakama Nation in coordination with the Bureau of Indian Affairs is responsible for the management of 1.2 million acre Yakama Reservation, which includes 650,000 acres of forestlands along the east, slopes of the Cascade Mountains.
Primary responsibilities involve tree planting and pre-commercial thinning. Will be involved with fire suppression and prescribed fire. May be involved with cone collecting, huckleberry field enhancement, and other forest development activities.
Examples of Work Performed:
Operates as part of a field crew planting tree seedlings.
Operates as part of a field crew pre-commercial thinning using chainsaws.
Assists with the implementation of prescribed fire projects.
During emergency conditions, participate in wildfire pre-suppression and suppression activities as required. Attends various fire-training courses.
May operate a U.S. Government and/or Tribal vehicle.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of forest development practices including tree planting, pre-commercial thinning and other timber stand activities designed to promote or enhance the establishment and growth of the commercial forest.
Knowledge of the Yakama forest, road system, and ability to understand basic forestry principles.
Knowledge of forest tree species, insect and disease conditions or the ability to understand those conditions.
Ability to work under strenuous conditions performing manual labor.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Minimum Requirements:
Must be physically and mentally capable and willing to endure extended periods of work under a wide variety of environmental conditions, be able to ascend and descend steep topography through rough forest terrain.
Required to pass pre-employment drug test.
Positions must pass the National Wildfire Coordinating Group national standards for arduous work level, which includes a pack test, physical, and mandatory firefighting training.
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Requirements:
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Salary : $16
