Substitute Cook Aide (2) Two Positions
Head Start
Department of Human Services
Hourly Wage: $15.90-$16.87/Intermittent/On-Call
Location: All Centers
This position will work as a part for the Yakama Nation Head Start food service program. This position is responsible for assisting in the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals in a preschool setting. This position also assists in taking inventory of food supply and shopping for replacement items. Cook Aide will assists in the duties related to the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) including meal counts and reports. Cook Aide will perform work with independence under the direction of the cook.
Examples of Work Performed:
Participates in nutrition training with Food Service Manager and Nutritionist.
Prepares food items and maintains kitchen area pursuant to USDA guidelines and Head Start Performance Standards.
Assists to prepare breakfast and lunch meals for students, staff, and visitors.
Utilizes a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment to prepare meals.
Washes cooking equipment & utensils and cleans kitchen area.
Ensures applicable health and sanitation practices are strictly followed.
Provides assistance to maintain inventory of food items, kitchen supplies, and equipment.
Assists with accountability and receiving of supplies and food items.
Fills and refills food related containers such as sugar bowls, salt and pepper shakers and napkin holders.
Assists to prepare a list and shop for food items and supplies.
As needed, provides assistance to maintain meal count of students, staff, and visitors.
Employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands; reach with hands and arms.
As instructed, performs assigned duties with some independence.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards.
Knowledge of methods of preparing and serving a variety of foods from fresh, canned, dry or frozen.
Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation methods used in a food service environment.
Knowledge of food storage methods, food service lines setup and temperature requirements.
Skills in cooking and preparing a variety of foods.
Ability to implement safe methods and practices of food preparation and service.
Ability to practice and maintain sound health measures that help prevent illness or disease.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
Ability to apply and maintain standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and personal hygiene.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to maintain standards of confidentiality and work ethic.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of successful work experience as a cook or related field.
Must possess a current First Aid/CPR Card and Food Handlers card or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
Required to pass pre-employment background check.
Must be able to manage confidential information.
Must follow Yakama Nation and YN Head Start Code of Conduct.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Requirements:
Certificate or degree in Culinary Arts course of study from an institute of higher education.
Preference will be given to past/present Head Start parents who meet the qualifications.
Salary : $16 - $17
