Hourly Wage : $21.11 / Regular / Full -Time

The focus is devoted to preparing a client inmate (pre-release) for reentry back into the communities and their families. This position works closely with the correctional administration, staff and all the other services that can offer and provide support to our clients as well as their families, relatives, and friends. This position will be responsible for coordination of employment training and education programs. This position is also responsible for working directly with the male and female adults, and the male and female juvenile client population through individual case management, and through professional resources, providing them one on one guidance and group services designed to help them mentally, socially, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. This position will also coordinate with service providers, volunteers, and elders to provide education of the Yakama Nation Cultural and Traditional practices, values, beliefs, knowledge, and psychosocial support for their overall mental and physical well-being. This position assists the client in employment opportunities through resources to help meet the requirements for work in various occupations related to their skill sets.

Examples of Work Performed :

Works closely with the Captain of Corrections with the schedules of all the services that are being provided to the clients individually and in group settings and keeps a schedule of all the classes and post.

Works with clients individually and in-group settings with the other service providers.

Coordinates training for clients with Correctional staff and trainers.

Works closely with maintenance employees and clients in the facility's Agricultural Food Supplementation Farm Management and Care program and provides training related to the care and education needed for the vegetables, herbs, and fruit that are being grown.

Coordinates traditional and cultural education classes; Sahaptin Language classes, root digging, huckleberry picking, and other traditional gathered foods.

Collects client request for services (KITES) and provides mandatory client updates on the services and works with designated service providers to coordinate and schedule appointments.

Maintains a daily logbook for recording day-by-day client events and accomplishments.

Works closely with Corrections Shift Supervisors to meet the medical and mental health needs of the client and coordinates staff and other transport entities to treatment centers off-site.

Must have high initiative to recruit and provide instructors and volunteers to teach and conduct training classes such as GED, Sahaptin Language, Resume, Drug and Alcohol awareness, health awareness classes.

Collaboration with Yakama Nation Behavioral Health Services to coordinate appointments with their staff for anger management, depression and other services that are provided.

Coordinates with the Yakama Nation Alcohol and Drug program for client assessments and evaluations.

Coordinates with cultural time with elders for root digging expeditions to rehabilitate clients and teach and share the traditional ways of the Yakama Nation people.

Must be able to communicate effectively with both female and male inmates of the correctional facility.

Must have the ability to learn and teach clients traditional and culturally important hands-on classes, drum making, beading, moccasin making and other items.

Must be familiar with Graphic Designs for visual communication and design for sign making / Sahaptin visual teaching material.

Must be willing to attend all the mandatory training required by the Corrections and the Yakama Nation.

Coordinates and participates in the sweat lodge ceremonies and provides guidance to the clients in attendance. This position is responsible to provide each client with an orientation prior to the ceremony.

Attends weekly Administration Meetings to up-date staff.

Must be available to work holidays, weekends, and in the evenings if requested.

Will be required to take classes on corrections Relias Online Training website.

Must take mandatory PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) classes on a yearly basis.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Knowledge of the Yakama Nation governmental organization policies and procedures.

Knowledge of Yakama Nation customs, cultural history, and other Native American customs.

Knowledge of Correctional Institutions and the Native American re-entry programs.

Knowledge and use of a computer and software programs such as Microsoft Word, Access, and Outlook.

Ability to help clients with employment requirements such as Driver License, ID, employment resources.

Ability to operate standard equipment such as copier, calculator, and fax.

Ability to become familiar with legal terminology, legal forms, legal documents, and their purpose.

Ability to teach to individual, large and small group of clients.

Ability to organize, prioritize task and assignments to staff as needed.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client and program information.

Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, both inside and outside the facility with good public relation skills and customer service.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form.

Minimum Requirements :

Minimum two-year Associates (AA) degree or two years of social work experience in criminal justice.

Three or more years of hands-on experience working with institutionalized clients.

Must be 21 years of age or older due to the sensitivity of work assignments and daily client interaction.

Must have current CPR, AED, and First Aid Card.

Criminal history convictions that include felony or misdemeanor offenses in Tribal, State, or Federal courts will be evaluated on a case-by-case including how long ago the crime was committed.

Must have no record of dependency actions, current, pending, or past in Tribal or State courts.

Must pass a pre-employment background check.

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.

Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Preferred Requirements :

Bachelor's Degree.

Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
