Starting Wage Range: $29.76/hr. - $38.39/hr.
Job Summary:
Performs professional law enforcement duties, which include but are not limited to, patrol, crime investigation work and responding to requests for services.
Essential Functions:
- Performs professional law enforcement duties, which include but are not limited to, patrol, crime investigation work and responding to requests for services.
- Maintains public peace and safety.
- Patrols assigned areas.
- Responds to incoming calls to the Tribal Police Department.
- Investigates complaints and incidents of a suspicious nature.
- Works with citizens to enforce state, Tribal and local laws.
- Cites and/or arrests persons in violation of the law.
- Responds to security and/or alarm issues at all Tribal facilities and Tribal lands. Handles citizen complaints.
- Attends meetings and trainings to keep abreast of modern criminal justice practices and procedures.
- Prepares accurate and complete police reports on crimes and investigations.
- Ensures that laws and ordinances are enforced.
- Acts as a liaison for Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) and the Tribal Police Department.
- Investigates major crime scenes, as necessary.
- Attends public meetings and represents the Tribal Police department, as assigned.
- Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
- Requires a High School diploma or GED. Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
- Requires possession of or ability to acquire within one year a Department of Public Safety and Standards (DPSST) basic certificate.
- Requires maintaining Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification by completing required number of hours of training per DPSST in Oregon.
- Must maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe’s vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.
Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:
- Must be 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen.
- Requires successfully completing a physical fitness (agility) test.
- Requires general experience in meeting and dealing with the public.
- No felony convictions or convictions of any domestic assault misdemeanors.
- Must have ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
- Must have ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with other governmental officials, employees and the public.
- Must have ability to develop a thorough knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws and Tribal ordinances.
- Must have ability to learn the skills necessary for preparing comprehensive reports in a clear and concise manner.
- Must have ability to act quickly and calmly under emergency situations.
- Must have ability to meet Department’s physical standards.
- Must be able to pass a psychological evaluation.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
- Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
- Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
- Constantly requires verbally expressing or exchanging ideas or important instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Occasionally involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet/and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat and vibration.
- It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of his/her duties.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
- This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
- May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during Emergencies, or when the Tribal Emergency Operations Center is opened.
- Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.

Salary : $30 - $38
