INTRODUCTION:

The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians (CTSI) is in the process of constructing a museum in Siletz, OR called Ghii Dee-Ne Dvn, A Place for Our People. This position provides leadership and strategic guidance during the development phase of Tribal Museum. Working closely with the CTSI Culture team, the incumbent is responsible for collecting the “story” of the Siletz Tribe and translating that story into the design of the facilities opening displays.

The incumbent is responsible for coordinating the Culture and Planning teams, architect, contractor and sub-contractors in the following: final museum design elements, display design and construction, and initial exhibit design/implementation. The incumbent will also coordinate with the Siletz Tribal Arts and Heritage Society (STAHS) as funders of the project.

DUTIES:

  • Manages a variety of exhibition projects from initial planning and design through construction and installation.
  • Responsible for overall project communication and coordination to deliver public-facing exhibition and collection-based projects. Communicates project status to stakeholders and key project participants across the museum.
  • Schedules and hosts cross-functional project meetings across multiple departments and divisions.
  • Track project deliverables (from content, design, and exhibit fabrication) against project requirements (e.g. scope, timelines, and budget) from initial planning through completion.
  • Nurture a positive, cooperative, and respectful working environment that helps the team and project grow; establishes effective working relationships amongst staff, project partners, consultants, vendors, and other parties related to the museum project.
  • Develops, prioritizes and implements project plans, including customer promotion program, press events and activities.
  • Oversees the internal display design, including ordering of materials and equipment.
  • Compiles estimated cost, budgets and prepares reports.
  • Determines appropriates responses to problems and emergencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned related to the museum project.
Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor of Arts degree in the humanities or museum studies; preference given to those with Native American history or cultural studies backgrounds and two years of professional project management work experience in a museum or related organization. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge in:

  • Native American museums.
  • Handling and inventorying museum collections.
  • Siletz Tribal tradition, customs and etiquette, preferred.
  • Siletz Tribal history, treaties, ceded lands & reservation, preferred.
  • Project management theory and best practices.
  • Understanding of processes related to exhibition production, including but not limited to: Catalogue production, registration and checklist management, exhibition text and editing, visitor engagement and experience planning, exhibition design and graphics, and installation.

Experience in:

  • Museum design to maximize visitor engagement.
  • Conservation, restoration and preservation of artifacts.
  • Design and curation of museum collection displays.
  • Planning, designing and caring for museum collections.
  • Sourcing display and storage equipment for museum artifacts.

Ability to:

  • Plan, coordinate and implement museum displays.
  • Work with a wide variety of people, including tribal, local, state, federal agencies.
  • Effectively communicate with the development team, tribal membership, community and agencies.
  • Communicate effectively using both verbal and written skills.

Other:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license, insurance and be eligible to drive a GSA vehicle.
