Job Summary:

Protect the Chehalis Tribe’s Fish & Wildlife resources through enforcement of the Tribe’s regulations and codes. Seek out, investigate, report, and follow-up on suspected violations of the Chehalis Tribal Regulations and Codes for Fish & Wildlife within the reservation boundaries and in surrounding areas as appropriate. In cooperation with the community, performs patrol, investigative, service, and enforcement functions, and provides for the safety of the public. Exhibits good customer service; communicates courteously and responsively, and provides effective and efficient service to the public and co-workers. As part of the Public Safety department, this position is considered essential services for the Chehalis Tribal Government.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

A. Patrols the Chehalis Reservation and any of the Tribe’s assets both on and off the reservation as necessary to enforce and investigate the Tribe’s Fish & Wildlife codes and regulations.

B. Patrols on foot and/or in a radio equipped patrol car or boat within tribal jurisdiction to prevent violations of tribal laws, codes, and ordinances.

C. Patrols reservation areas, including the river, in all weather conditions.

D. Operates and maintains equipment used in the field and on the river.

E. Protects Fish & Wildlife and the Tribe’s assets.

F. Works with other Tribal, State, and Federal agencies as necessary.

G. Works with Fish & Wildlife team as necessary to support the Fish & Wildlife program.

H. Works with the Fish & Wildlife committee to review codes and regulations pertaining to fish and wildlife enforcement and updates those codes and regulations accordingly.

I. Writes reports and issues citations as necessary.

J. Performs complex investigations, renders service, enforces tribal laws and codes including traffic, civil, and criminal laws, and generally provides for the safety of the public.

K. Issues warnings and citations where appropriate and makes arrests when necessary.

L. Seizes equipment and evidence relative to violations for disposition by the courts.

M. Reads and applies department policies, rules, regulations, instructions, laws, and ordinances, and general literature pertaining to policing.

N. Prepares written reports and memoranda summarizing information. Uses computers for reports, communications, and information retrieval.

O. Testifies and presents evidence in court.

P. Responsible for the protection and conservation of fish, wildlife, and natural resources through the enforcement of tribal hunting and fishing ordinances on the reservation, in the Tribe's usual and accustomed fishing waters and hunting lands.

Q. Arranges for disposition of fish, game, and other natural resources unlawfully taken.

R. Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents. Responsible for safety of self, others, materials, and equipment.

S. May be assigned specialty duties such as Community Relations Officer, Drug Task Force, River and Swift Water Rescue, K-9 Unit, or Patrol Officer duties.

T. Perform other duties as assigned.

U. May be assigned duties under the Chehalis Tribes Emergency Management plan and program.

Minimum Qualifications:

A. Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED and two (2) years’ experience in related field required. Bureau of Indian Affairs Basic Police Training Program or Basic Police Academy certification recognized by the State of Washington is required. Prefer experience working with American Indian/Alaska Native communities.

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
