POSITION: Para- Educator (2 positions)
SALARY: $20.00 - $20.04, per hour , DOE
REPORTS TO: Principal
LOCATION: PSIS, Omak, WA
Basic Functions: This is a Non-Exempt position. Under the immediate supervision from the classroom teacher, the para-educator will assist with individualized and group instruction of students in reading, math, or other instruction areas. Work must be performed accurately and usually requires that the incumbents become familiar with the daily classroom routine and terminology, judgment is limited to clearly defined work procedures and priorities. Para-educators do not provide direct instruction to students.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
- Associates Degree is preferred OR must be working on an Education Plan within a timeline OR successfully have passed a PAXIS test and have a minimum of 32 semester credits or 48 quarter credits.
- Requires a valid Washington State Drivers' License and must maintain throughout employment.
- Requires a First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Requires proof of degree/transcripts and THREE written letters of reference to be submitted along with application.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Requires basic knowledge of or in the pursuit of basic methods used, instruction, and handling of student behavior.
- Requires knowledge of an experience working with and supervising Native American Children.
- Requires knowledge and experience in recognizing that children have individual rates of development as well as individual interests, temperaments, languages, cultural backgrounds and learning styles.
- Requires knowledge of and experience in record keeping and reporting. (preferred)
- Requires knowledge of Reservation life styles.
- Requires ability to understand and apply rules, procedures, and policies.
- Requires ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Requires ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Supervisors and subordinates.
- Requires abstaining from any abuse of alcohol and/or drugs for the duration of employment.
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.
TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.
If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
