POSITION: Upper Columbia Monitoring Coordinator
SALARY: $21.07-$29.01, per hour DOE
REPORTS TO: Environmental Services Manager
LOCATION: Environmental Trust; Nespelem, Washington
Basic Functions: This is a non-exempt position. Incumbent is responsible for developing Water Resources assurance plans for new toxics monitoring program. Coordinates sample collection analysis. Performs data and risk communication. Presents information on watershed programs to schools or other groups or individuals to advance CCT programs and engage in public on soil, water, and other environmental issues.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
- Typically requires an AA degree in environmental, natural resources, or related field AND 24 months work related experience.
- OR College level course work in environmental, physical, or natural science, or closely related field may be substituted for required experience
- OR High School Diploma or GED and 48 months of work related experience in an environmental or natural resources position.
- Requires a valid Washington State Drivers' License and must be eligible for the tribes vehicle insurance and maintain throughout employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Requires basic knowledge of water quality, principles and practices of environmental monitoring, data gathering techniques, factors that contribute environmental pollution and degradation, water law and environmental jurisdiction on Indian Lands, human health risk assessments, and risk communication.
- Requires skill in time management, effective communication with other staff and agencies, as well as the general public.
- Requires skill in and knowledge of the operations of water flow and level measurement instruments and equipment, documenting inspections, and use of various power and hand tools.
- Requires the ability to work outside in all weather, in steep terrain, and in a safe orderly manner observing QA/QC practices.
- Requires the ability to lift heavy objects, make independent decisions, and use sound judgement in performing assigned tasks.
- Requires the ability to self train and work well with others.
- Requires the ability to learn new techniques and systems quickly.
- Requires the ability to read maps and aerial photos, compile survey data, and make computations of environmental measurements.
- Requires the ability to operate GPS instruments, operate basic computer software, and perform basic statistics.
- Requires the ability to maintain and repair electrical and mechanical devices using improvised methods in the field.
- Requires the ability to understand Tribal Administrative processes, travel in remote country using four wheel drive vehicles, snowmobiles, and towing trailers.
- Requires the ability to operate backhoe, chainsaw, weed-eater.
- Requires the ability lift heavy objects and sit/stand for long periods of time.
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
