POSITION: Wildlife Fire Dispatcher I / II
SALARY: Dispatcher I - $21.82 -$25.30 , per hour / Dispatcher II - $23.63 - $27.39
REPORTS TO: Fire Dispatch Supervisor
LOCATION: Mt. Tolman, Keller WA
Basic Functions: This is a Non-Exempt position.
Dispatcher I - Serves as a dispatcher in support of an initial attack fire suppression program and a prescribed fire implementation program; assisting in the operation of a fire dispatch office and performing administrative duties.
Dispatcher II - Serves as a fully qualified dispatcher in support of an initial attack fire suppression, prescribed fire and is responsible for mobilizing aviation resources; assisting in the operation of a fire dispatch office and performing administrative duties. Capable of working independently
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
- Dispatcher I - Requires a high school diploma and 12-18 months of experience or closely related experience.
- Dispatcher II - Requires a high school diploma. and 18-24 months experience as a Communications Operator I. D-311 and D-312, or equivalent if changes made by NWCG. and
- must successful completion of Aircraft and Initial Attach Dispatcher Taskbook(s)
- Requires a valid State Driver's License and be eligible for the Tribes vehicle insurance and maintain throughout employment.
- Requires a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator's Identification Card.
- Requires Certification as Initial Attack Dispatcher (IADP) and within a year Aircraft Dispatcher (ACDP) through NWCG. Aircraft Dispatcher requires the following certifications:
- A-103, Temporary Flight Restrictions and Advisory Notices to Airmen
- A-110, Aviation Transportation of Hazardous Materials A-202, Interagency Aviation Organizations
- A-203, Basic Airspace
- A-204, Manned Aircraft Capabilities and Limitations A-205, Risk Management I
- A-208, Aircraft and Pilot Approval A-303, Human Factors in Aviation A-305, Risk Management II
- A-307, Aviation Policy and Regulations II
- A-310, Overview of Crew Resource Management or N9059, Crew Resource Management 7 Skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Dispacher I & Dispatcher II - Requires basic knowledge of fire behavior and probable action which fire may take under varying conditions of fuel, weather, terrain (S-130 Basic Fire Fighter and S-190 Basic Fire Behavior is required).
- Requires knowledge of Incident Command System and various types of Resource Orders. (Equipment, Aircraft, Overhead, Crews, and Supplies.)
- Requires knowledge of the Colville Reservation geography including major and minor highways and roadways.
- Requires knowledge of and skill at using a computer, common office productivity software, geographic information systems, and specialized applications used in public safety for emergency dispatch.
- Requires sufficient command of English language and grammar to record and relay information accurately, clearly, and concisely.
- Requires sufficient human relations skills to gather information while calming callers who are under stress, employ advanced telephone interviewing skills to obtain critical information, and relay information accurately to responders.
- Requires sufficient knowledge of math to record and compute quantities and distances.
- Requires skill in learning new information quickly and in thinking and reacting quickly, clearly, and logically in routine or emergency situations that require rational thought, immediate comprehension and action in accordance with established policy and procedures
- Requires the ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Requires the ability to learn, master, and communicate on and operate a two way radio using codes and language specific to the job.
- Requires the ability to learn to and simultaneously operate a computer-aided dispatch system, telephones, multi-channel radio, numerous computer databases and maps.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information gained while working and restricting the use of such information to work duties.
- Requires the ability to make fast responses and quick and correct decisions, take charge of conversations, and obtain accurate information from callers and responders.
- Requires the ability to communicate with callers of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Requires the ability to use grammatically correct sentence structure.
- Requires the ability to work a variety of schedules during days arid nights.

- Must use personal judgment developed through coordinating, dispatching and training to reach decisions on allocation of resources during fire emergencies.
- Requires the ability to function primarily indoors in a secure office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature.
- Requires ambulatory ability to move about forward flexing to operate multiple communications devices, retrieve files and keyboard at an acceptable rate.
- Requires sufficient hand-eye-arm coordination rapidly access office equipment.
- Requires visual acuity to read computer screens, printed material, and detailed map information.
- Requires auditory ability to carry on conversations over the phone and in person.
- Must be available to work throughout the year on staggered tours of duty with other personnel, involving weekends, holidays, and prolonged hours.
- . Employee must be in good physical condition because of the long periods of work that are required by this position.
- Work is performed indoors in an office setting where some safety considerations exist, but there are times the employee must be present in equipment shops, warehouse, and/or fire camp where safety conditions exist from rapid physical movements.
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
