POSITION: Wildlife Technician I/II- Fence Crew SEASONAL
SALARY: $20.00- $24.34, per hour DOE
REPORTS TO: Wildlife Technician II/Senior
LOCATION: Inchelium, Washington
Basic Functions: .Working under supervision of the Natural Resource Technician Senior in Inchelium, this position will assist with the protection, enhancement, and restoration of wildlife habitats on wildlife mitigation properties on the Colville Reservation. Primary duties of the Natural Resource Technician I/II include: performing trespass livestock removal, fence construction, maintenance, and removal; integrated noxious weed control (spraying, mowing, bio-controls, seeding, etc.), utilizing farm and other mechanical equipment. Position requires extensive field work in all weather conditions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
Wildlife Technician I
- Requires a High School Diploma or GED and a satisfactory work history.
- Requires a Valid State Driver's License.
Wildlife Technician II
- Requires a High School Diploma or GED AND 36 months progressively responsible experience equivalent
- Requires a Valid State Driver's License.
- Natural Resource Technician II: Must obtain a WSDA Public Operator Pesticide License with one of the following endorsements: Agricultural Weeds or Right-of-Way Weeds, or a Washington State Commercial Driver's License (Class A).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Requires document and track spraying records and other weed control methods.
- Requires to be self-motivated and work with limited supervision.
- Requires to be organized and prioritize work to achieve results, goals, and objectives on time.
- Requires to effectively handle adverse situations, making appropriate decisions, working calmly, and accurately.
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively to the general public and other co-workers.
- Requires the ability to safely operate and maintain project equipment such as 4-wheel drive vehicle, ATV, tractor, chainsaw, and power equipment.
- Requires the ability to safely operate trucks and trailers; backing up, loading, and unloading equipment off the trailers.
- Requires the ability to safely and effectively supervise small work crews by understanding and following applicable regulations and standards to maintain a safe work environment. Remind others of safety practices to minimize the likelihood of accidents. Use standard laboratory and field equipment (such as herbicide application equipment).
- Requires the ability conduct fence construction, maintenance, and removal.
- Requires the ability to be in good physical condition to be able to work and hike in inclement weather conditions and over variable and rugged terrain.
- Requires the ability to be able to repetitively lift up to 50 lbs. and carry up to 45 lbs. while hiking in steep terrain.
- Requires the physical ability to be able to sit or stand for long periods of time (hours).
- Requires ability and willingness to work in varying, sometimes remote, locations in all kinds of weather.
- Requires the ability to be able to work variable hours, long days, early mornings, holidays, and weekends as the work dictates.
- Requires the ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment as a team member.
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.
TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.
If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
