JOB DESCRIPTION
Confidant is looking for a Tech PR/Communications Director to support a fast-paced, global e-commerce account through corporate reputation and consumer PR storytelling programs in the DC metro area and beyond.
This position entails developing and leading communications campaigns, ensuring consistent, impactful messaging for the company’s various stakeholders. The role involves overseeing media relations, executive communications, and corporate storytelling while collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance brand reputation and customer trust. This role will help lead both consumer and corporate communications initiatives that leverage news, product launches, creative campaigns, client executives, social impact initiatives and industry trends to promote our clients’ stories primarily across owned, and earned channels as well as paid channels, when relevant.
The ideal candidate will have 8 years of PR agency or in-house experience supporting work for tech and e-commerce companies where media relations (strategy AND day-to-day execution) is central to their remit. Experience driving earned media around key industry trends and policy is critical. Experience working with local Washington, DC media and policy makers, as well as enhancing a company’s reputation in their hometowns, is a must. Candidates must also be excellent writers, strong earned media strategists and have experience placing coverage with both consumer and business/tech media.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Development and implement comprehensive, integrated campaigns with a specific focus on thought leadership, media relations, executive visibility and corporate storytelling.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with consumer, business/tech and trade media, analysts, and influencers in the tech, logistic and e-commerce sectors.
- Expertly counsel clients across a range of industries to manage issues and meet business goals based on a deep understanding of the media, regulatory and stakeholder landscape; provide issues management and crisis counsel, when warranted.
- Develop executive positioning platforms and executive visibility strategies to deploy across earned, owned and social channels to reach priority stakeholders; strong understanding of digital executive visibility strategy and content (LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram).
- Manage day-to-day operations of specific accounts, including coordination of integrated workstreams, client communication and team management.
- Monitor global news and industry trends, identifying potential risks and opportunities.
- Contribute to the agency's new business proposals; participate in new business presentations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 8 years’ experience in communications, public relations or corporate affairs (a mix of agency and in-house experience is welcome), preferably in tech, logistics or e-commerce.
- Strong experience working on companies’ corporate stories in the DC metro area, including workplace, e-commerce, product development, customer support, consumer research, executive visibility, thought leadership and reputation management.
- Understand local business and policy needs to develop a proactive communications plan to drive awareness around client’s work with local cities and its economic impact.
- Strong ability to work and influence teams cross functionally, integrating comms plans seamlessly with other departments and functions, such as marketing, policy and legal.
- Ability to navigate complex regulatory and policy-related communications.
- Collaborative spirit, with a strong understanding of how to communicate with teams and the ability to manage internal and external (client) expectations.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with proven effectiveness driving complex multi-stakeholder planning processes, driving cross-team programs to desired results.
- Excellent strategic understanding of both traditional and modern communications, integrating strategic planning, analytics and creative to develop and execute integrated media campaigns, when relevant.
- Deep experience securing opportunities for clients at top-tier business and industry conferences/events, on speaking panels, and in business membership groups.
- Understand a variety of research tools and techniques and how to turn research – primary and/or secondary – into client insights, strategies, and tactics across internal and external channels to build reputation and brand trust.
- Self-starter, solution-oriented, and an agent of change.

LOCATION
Washington, DC area-based candidates only; This position is fully remote but will require regular in-person client meetings and media relations support in the DC metro area. Occasional travel to NYC and elsewhere.

The salary for this role is $125K-$145K, commensurate with experience.
