Seeking a highly skilled Electrical & Controls Engineer to design, program, and commission automation and material handling systems for a leading provider of conveyor systems and material handling solutions specializing in designing, manufacturing, and installing a wide range of conveyor systems for various industries, including automotive, food processing, and warehousing.
This role requires expertise in EPLAN, Allen Bradley PLCs, Rockwell Automation, Siemens TIA Portal, industrial electrical architecture, MDR (Motorized Drive Roller) conveyor systems, and automation solutions including SCADA and MES.
The ideal candidate will develop PLC/HMI programs, integrate SCADA/MES systems, work with linear and rotary actuators, oversee the manufacturing process, and ensure compliance with industry standards for electrical design and automation.
Control System - Design & Development
- PLC & HMI Programming: Develop control logic using Allen Bradley (Studio 5000, RSLogix), Rockwell Automation, and Siemens TIA Portal.
- Electrical Architecture Design: Develop and implement control panel layouts, power distribution panels (PDPs), and wiring schemes that comply with NFPA 79, NEC, and UL508A standards.
- SCADA & MES Integration: Configure, develop, and maintain SCADA systems (Ignition, FactoryTalk View SE) and MES solutions for industrial automation.
- MDR Conveyor Systems: Design and integrate Motorized Drive Roller (MDR) conveyor systems, specifically with Itoh Denki and Interroll technologies.
- Linear & Rotary Actuators: Implement and program control strategies for pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric linear and rotary actuators in automation systems.
- VFD & Motor Control: Configure, program, and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), servo drives, and motor control systems.
- EPLAN & AutoCAD Electrical: Design electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical.
- System Integration, Testing & Manufacturing Support
- Industrial Networks: Design and implement communication networks such as Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, and DeviceNet.
- MDR Conveyor Control: Develop control strategies for Itoh Denki and Interroll MDR conveyors, including ZPA (Zero Pressure Accumulation) and network-based control architectures.
- Manufacturing Oversight: Work closely with the production team to oversee the manufacturing and assembly of electrical and control systems, ensuring quality and compliance with specifications.
- System Testing & Validation: Conduct in-house testing and debugging before system deployment to ensure functionality, safety, and reliability.
- Field Commissioning & Troubleshooting: Travel for system installation, commissioning, and final debugging at customer sites.
- Industry Standards & Safety Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to NFPA, NEC, UL508A, and
- ISO 13849-1 (Safety of Machinery – Control Systems).
- Technical Support & Collaboration
- Support Electrical Panels & PDPs: Troubleshoot and maintain electrical control panels, power distribution systems.
- Documentation & Training: Create and maintain technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, control narratives, and user manuals.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work with mechanical, software, and production teams to ensure smooth design-to-production transitions.
Required Skills & Abilities
- PLC Programming Expertise: Allen Bradley (Studio 5000, RSLogix), Siemens TIA Portal.
- HMI Development: FactoryTalk View, WinCC.
- SCADA & MES Systems: Ignition, FactoryTalk View SE.
- Electrical Design Software: EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical.
- MDR Conveyor Systems: Experience with Itoh Denki, Interroll, and ZPA conveyor control strategies.
- Linear & Rotary Actuators: Experience integrating pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric actuators into automated systems.
- VFD & Motor Control Experience: Rockwell PowerFlex, Siemens Sinamics, and general motor control applications.
- Industrial Networking Knowledge: Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, DeviceNet.
- Understanding of Industry Standards: NFPA 79, NEC, UL508A, ISO 13849-1.
- Manufacturing & Testing Experience: Ability to oversee production processes and conduct system validation before deployment.
- Strong Analytical & Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex electrical and controls issues.
- Excellent Communication & Teamwork: Work effectively with engineers, technicians, and customers.
Additional Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical controls, PLC programming, and system integration.
- Hands-on experience with material handling systems, MDR conveyors, SCADA/MES integration, electrical panels, and power distribution panels (PDPs) is highly preferred.
- Ability to travel 20-30% for field commissioning and customer support.
- Familiarity with safety standards and risk assessments is a plus.
