Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

A leading food manufacturing company is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to drive workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management initiatives. This role plays a critical part in fostering a proactive safety culture, implementing best practices, and ensuring adherence to all environmental, health, and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance workplace safety and operational efficiency.
Safety Leadership & Culture Development
- Act as a safety champion, setting the standard for workplace health and environmental compliance.
- Strengthen employee engagement in safety initiatives by building partnerships across departments.
- Lead the Employee Safety Committee, encouraging proactive safety measures and continuous improvement.
- Facilitate the Safety Observation process to promote awareness and prevent incidents.
- Conduct thorough facility audits and inspections to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Assess workplace layouts, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
Compliance & Regulatory Management
- Stay ahead of evolving federal, state, and local regulations, ensuring the organization remains in compliance.
- Manage OSHA reporting, including maintaining logs and submitting the First Report of Injury as required.
- Oversee the Contractor Safety Program, ensuring third-party compliance with safety protocols.
- Serve as the emergency response coordinator, leading efforts to prepare for and respond to workplace incidents.
- Maintain documentation and inspection records, ensuring all compliance requirements are met.
- Communicate key regulatory updates and safety initiatives to department leaders and employees.
Training & Risk Prevention
- Design and deliver safety training programs, including onboarding for new employees and annual refreshers.
- Ensure training records are meticulously maintained and readily available for audits and internal reviews.
- Develop corrective and preventive measures based on injury reports, near-miss investigations, and employee feedback.
- Collaborate with leadership to integrate safety best practices into daily operations.
- Monitor trends in workplace safety and implement initiatives that drive risk reduction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental health and safety
- In-depth understanding of OSHA General Industry Standards, NFPA regulations, and workplace safety protocols.
- Professional certifications (CSP, CIH, or similar) are a plus but not required.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical procedures and regulatory documents.
