Purpose of the Position
The Director of Sales manages and oversees the sales operations of Nutrition and Agronomy. This position is responsible for designing plans to meet sales targets, developing, and cultivating relationships with current and prospective customers, and evaluating costs. This position will lead the sales teams by developing and implementing sales plans to increase the company’s profit and motivate their employees to achieve sales goals. Conducting research on the competition and supply and demand costs to determine product worth is an essential duty of this position as well as comparing suppliers based on price, quality, and delivery time.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve sales targets
- Create and communicate sales goals and ensure upper management is informed on the progress of those goals
- Build and maintain long-lasting, strong relationships with customers while partnering with them to better understand their business objectives and needs
- Understand agriculture specific trends
- Collaborate with direct reports to develop a comprehensive strategy and provide the effective and inspiring leadership necessary to grow the organization through both new sales and retention
- Apply strong decision-making and judgment skills
- Lead change management and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with upper management in the development of performance goals and long-term sales plans
- Analyze current sales processes and performance, recommending solutions for improvement when necessary
- Build and maintain relationships with all department managers, external partners, and vendors to make decisions regarding sales activity and strategic goals
- Plan, monitor, and analyze key metrics for the day-to-day performance of the sales teams to ensure efficiently and timely completion of tasks
- Develop purchasing strategies and identify buying trends to keep the business profitable
- Seek the best available quality of product for the lowest price by evaluating suppliers and negotiating contracts
- Develop marketing content, including content planning and budgeting for the website, radio ads and miscellaneous marketing avenues

Experience and Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in the agriculture industry, Business Administration, or related field
- 10 years senior leadership role in relevant field
- Proven ability to drive sales process from start to finish
- Excelling listening, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Proven ability to articulate distinct aspects of services and products
- Knowledge of how to develop customer-focused, differentiated, and achievable solutions
- Understanding of how to position products against competitors
