The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Senior Survivability Engineer) will be responsible for the development and integration of key technologies which include metallic/composite armor and structures, advanced electro-optic and radar sensors, high powered computing assets, chemical weapon protective equipment and pyrotechnic countermeasure systems.
Responsibilities
- Support and participate in armor subsystem and vehicle-level integration, armor testing and verification activities.
- Define and integrate passive and active protection solutions for combat vehicles.
- Define and integrate signature management solutions including thermal, acoustic and visual
- System requirements analysis and synthesis of solutions
- Develop data and create design layouts, sketches, and notes necessary for design changes.
- Coordinate with Materials Engineer to ensure proper materials are used.
- Provide knowledge of survivability discipline; specifically related to the metals/materials used.
- Ability to communicate and determine design factors such as availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, efficiency of metals or materials while maintaining government specifications and requirements.
- Participate in the generation and revision of engineering drawings, reports, and procedures.
- Represent the company or the Survivability team at internal meetings or meetings with subcontractors, partners, and customers.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time. Occasional international travel may be required.
Qualifications
- BSc Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, or equivalent)
- 10 years of engineering experience in the defense, aerospace, or automotive industry.
- Experience in the design and development of armor vehicles; and/or armor plating.
- Ability to work within CAD based design systems.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn model-based systems engineering techniques.
- Ability to present technical solutions to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Familiarity with the US DoD ground vehicle requirements.
- Knowledge of the US DoD process and procedures for vehicle development and acquisition.
- Knowledge of Military Standards.
- Familiarity with the US Army TACOM / TARDEC organizations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Practical ‘hands on’ attitude with the ability to operate independently.
- Hands on knowledge on domain of vehicle survivability technologies and equipment.
- Practical ‘hands on’ attitude with the ability to operate independently.
- Ability to present technical solutions to clients and internal stakeholders in meeting environments.
- Has the ability to obtain US Defense clearance up to SECRET.
- Well-rounded engineering background with coursework in mechanical engineering, electrical, software and materials.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MSc Engineering desired (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Management)
- Military experience
- Ability to manipulate or create components in 3D modelling software such as CREO
- Understanding of Systems Engineering and related standards and processes
Salary : $120,000 - $160,000
