Position Overview
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing (DON) in overseeing the delivery of high-quality care that ensures the physical, mental, and psychological well-being of residents in the facility. The ADON plays a key role in coordinating nursing services, staffing, quality assurance, and compliance with regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Administrative Support:
- Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, and overseeing the daily operations of the nursing department in compliance with facility policies, regulations, and best practices.
- Participate in the development and evaluation of nursing care methods to ensure continuous improvement in patient care and compliance with standards.
- Quality of Care:
- Support the coordination of nursing services to maintain continuity of care for all residents, ensuring that each resident's individual care plan is followed.
- Communicate with attending physicians, medical directors, and family members regarding resident care as necessary.
- Staffing:
- Help determine staffing needs and assist in the recruitment, hiring, and training of nursing staff.
- Assist in ensuring adequate nursing staff coverage for each shift and verify that staffing meets the residents' care requirements.
- Develop staff schedules, assign work duties, and assist with supervising nursing staff to ensure tasks are completed effectively.
- Quality Assurance:
- Participate in the facility’s quality assurance program, assisting with the development, implementation, and monitoring of quality care initiatives.
- Serve as a member of the Quality Assurance Committee as assigned.
- Assist in reviewing resident clinical records and consultant reports, and help implement necessary corrective actions.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Occasionally assist with MDS assessments and care plan updates.
- Participate in nursing on-call rotations as needed.
- Assist with reviewing regulatory reports and ensure appropriate compliance actions are taken.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
Qualifications
- Educational Requirements:
- Must have completed an accredited nursing program (RN or LVN).
- Licensing Requirements:
- Must hold a current Texas RN or LVN licensure.
- Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in a skilled nursing facility.
- Experience with regulatory compliance and quality assurance programs preferred.
- Certifications:
- RUG certification is preferred but not required.
