We are a rapidly growing, client-focused law firm headquartered in Brazoria County that concentrates on family law and criminal defense across Brazoria, Fort Bend, Harris, and other Counties contiguous to Brazoria County. With caseloads expanding, we’re looking for a motivated associate who wants hands-on courtroom experience and mentorship from a trial lawyer.
Position Summary
The Associate Attorney will manage an independent docket of family and criminal matters—from intake through trial—while collaborating closely with the principal attorney on complex litigation. You’ll gain immediate courtroom exposure, drafting authority, and strategic input on high-stakes cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial client consultations; set litigation strategy with supervising attorney
- Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and agreements in SAPCRs, divorce, protective orders, misdemeanors, and felonies
- Appear at temporary orders hearings, docket calls, pre-trial conferences, mediations, and jury/bench trials
- Negotiate plea deals and settlement agreements; participate in voir dire and witness prep
- Manage deadlines, calendaring, and billing entries in Clio
- Supervise law clerks/paralegals on legal research, document review, and trial prep
- Maintain compassionate, client-centric communication while upholding ethical standards
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the state bar and active license to practice law
- Proficient in legal research tools such as Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw
- Strong writing and legal drafting skills
- Experience in family law and criminal defense law
- Excellent negotiation and communication abilities
- Familiarity with document review processes and legal administrative tasks
- 0-3 years practicing; clinic, internship, or clerkship in family or criminal law counts.
- Regular appearances in Brazoria, Harris, Fort Bend, Matagorda, and Galveston County courthouses.
Preferred / Bonus Qualifications
- First-chair experience in any contested hearing or jury trial
- Spanish language proficiency
- Demonstrated interest in law-office business development or community outreach
- Familiarity with Texas discovery rules & local standing orders
Schedule
- Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (court appearances may require earlier start/late finish)
- Occasional after-hours client meetings or emergency hearings
