Job Title : Chief Estimator

Position Summary :
The Chief Estimator will lead and oversee the estimating function for an international heavy civil engineering company, ensuring accurate and competitive bids for large-scale infrastructure projects. This role is critical in securing new business, maintaining the company’s competitive edge, and supporting the execution of complex projects in transportation, energy, water, and other heavy civil engineering sectors.
The Chief Estimator will manage a team of estimators, collaborate with cross-functional departments, and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities :
Leadership & Strategy :
- Develop and implement the estimating department's processes, strategies, and best practices.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of estimators to ensure consistent performance and professional growth.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align estimating efforts with company goals and market opportunities.
Estimating & Preconstruction :
Oversee the preparation of detailed cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals for heavy civil projects, including roads, bridges, tunnels, dams, and other infrastructure.Review project plans, specifications, and contracts to ensure complete understanding and risk identification.Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids for accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness.Analyze historical data to refine estimating accuracy and improve cost projections.Collaboration & Communication :
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment between estimating and project execution.Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, subcontractors, and suppliers during the preconstruction phase.Prepare and present estimates to executive leadership and clients, addressing all technical and financial aspects of the bid.Market Analysis & Innovation :
Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and advancements in estimating software and technologies.Continuously evaluate opportunities to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the estimating process.Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).Minimum of 10 years of experience in estimating roles within the heavy civil engineering industry.Proven track record of successfully estimating and bidding on large-scale infrastructure projects (>100M).
Deep understanding of construction methods, materials, and equipment used in heavy civil projects.Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HCSS, Bluebeam, or similar).Exceptional analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.Strong leadership and team management capabilities.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Other Requirements :
Willingness to travel as needed for project sites, client meetings, and industry events.Familiarity with international construction regulations, standards, and practices is a plus.Why Join Us?
