Chief Financial Officer
Position overview
Dynamic family office (FO) headquartered in Austin, Texas seeks an innovative and strategic Chief Financial Officer to serve as an integral member of the executive team. Responsible for a broad range of functions across many areas critical to the FO, including the financial, accounting, tax, fiduciary needs, as well as related trusts, operating entities, and charitable entities.
You will be responsible for all accounting needs and financial reporting. You will lead and oversee a wide range of tasks, from the highly sophisticated to purely administrative, functioning as a “quarterback” to integrate all financial, accounting, and tax aspects of the FO to provide advice, solutions, and present information to facilitate decision-making. You will also manage trusted outside/ outsourced partners, including but not limited to tax counsel and accounting firms.
Key executive responsibilities
• Establishing and overseeing accounting systems, processes, and procedures to ensure efficient operation of FO financial function, as well as appropriate controls, checks, and balances so that all accounting records are consistent and accurate.
• Managing and overseeing the daily operations of the FO accounting requirements, including cash management, credit facilities, account disbursements, and safekeeping to ensure all reporting is accurate and timely.
• Maintaining up-to-date and accurate records for all financial transactions, including inflows, outflows, budgets, investments, receivables, payables, purchase contracts, insurance, aircraft for family members, trusts, and charitable and investment entities.
• Monitoring short- and long-term financial, tax, and wealth transfer planning strategies
• Monitoring existing internal controls and working with outside accounting firms to conduct periodic risk assessments. Setting up new policies and procedures, as needed.
• Developing and managing relationships with financial institutions, insurers, and partners and working collaboratively and nimbly with team members to deliver excellence and maintain a high-performance FO environment.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Preferred is experience in a combination of public accounting, ultra-high net worth family environments, and operating growth companies, with an emphasis on accounting, financial management, and financial reporting.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, finance, mathematics, business administration, or a related field required; CPA preferred.
• Extensive experience with cash and working capital management and forecasting, strong technical accounting skills, and knowledge of accounting principles, and management reporting.
• In-depth understanding of financial instruments, investment types, vehicle structures, asset classes, tax regulations, and financial covenants.
• Technical skills to aggregate, translate, and report upon financial information to develop meaningful and effective financial reporting and forecast processes, reports, and systems across all organizations and entities.
