Accountable for the overall direction and leadership of the Risk Management and Safety Department for the Company. Oversee the property and casualty insurance program, regulatory compliance, field safety operations, claims administration, and related litigation management for a distribution and manufacturing company with 50 locations in 12 states, 700 employees, 700 vehicles-including large trucks, and revenue of $800M. Develop metrics and strategies to improve the Company’s risk profile.
Job Responsibilities
Property and Casualty Insurance
- Responsible for the overall risk transfer methodology through purchasing property, casualty, excess/umbrella, and executive risk insurance programs.
- Manage relationships with third-party service providers, including insurance brokers, insurance agencies, attorneys, and third-party administrators.
- Prepare loss analyses and exposure information for insurance renewal purposes.
- Strategically refine objectives and solutions to achieve financial optimization of total cost of risk using an enterprise risk management approach.
- Manage claims costs, insurance premiums, deductible amounts, and collateral requirements.
Claims and Litigation Administration
- Ensure efficient handling of the claims administration program and associated litigation of auto, general liability, property, and workers’ compensation incidents working directly with in-house general counsel.
- Implement post-loss techniques and best practices such as investigation, liability determination, exposure analysis, reserving, and resolution.
- Gather and communicate data related to claims costs, insurance premiums, and fees, to executive management, accounting, and the field.
- Provide quarterly reports detailing performance scorecards, loss trends, forecasting, and performance intervention for fiscal budgetary efforts.
Regulatory Compliance
- Oversee objectives pertaining to regulatory compliance.
- Research and monitor changes in federal and local jurisdictional regulations (OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, EPA).
- Identify, interpret, and communicate subject matter impacting the organization to all stakeholders.
- Offer real-world compliance solutions while minimizing operational interruption.
- Perform regular audits and inspections to ensure regulatory compliance across the enterprise.
- Perform due diligence for new acquisitions and greenfield activity.
Field Safety Operations
- Oversee the Corporate Safety Manager and direct reports in the health and safety program.
- Focus on behavioral-based safety practices.
- Identify operational hazards and establish collaborative efforts to strengthen the development and implementation of an injury and illness prevention program.
- Create policies, training programs, and best practices in the best interest of the operation.
- Monitor the effectiveness of the company’s program through regular audits, trend analysis, and evaluations.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of five years of related work experience in a domestic, multi-location, active risk management environment.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures related to logistical distribution and manufacturing risks.
- Working knowledge of applicable laws and rules for states where the Company operates.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- Sense of urgency with a customer service mentality.
- Demonstrates excellent leadership ability, acting as a role model and mentor.
- Analytically and strategically minded with strong negotiation skills to produce win/win results.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills—respectful, responsive, and humble.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
