Purpose
The Director of Transportation oversees and optimizes all transportation operations within the organization, ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and timely delivery of goods and services. This role includes managing fleet operations, logistics strategy, compliance, safety standards, and vendor relationships to meet organizational goals and customer expectations. Responsible for 150 tractor trailers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic transportation plans aligned with the company’s goals.
- Lead daily operations for all transportation functions, including inbound/outbound logistics, routing, and scheduling.
- Ensure timely deliveries, optimize routes, and improve delivery performance metrics.
- Recruit, train, and mentor transportation staff, including drivers, dispatchers, and logistics coordinators.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, and international transportation regulations (DOT, FMCSA, etc.).
- Foster a positive and accountable culture focused on performance, safety, and customer service.
- Manage third-party logistics (3PL) providers, freight brokers, and other external partners.
- Monitor and evaluate vendor performance against KPIs and service-level agreements (SLAs).
- Develop and maintain performance dashboards and transportation KPIs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Transportation, or a related field.
- MBA or relevant certification (e.g., CTL, CTP) is a plus.
- At least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and fleet operations.
- Experience with transportation management systems (TMS) and route optimization software.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
