Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Fleet Manager to oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of our vehicle fleet. The Fleet Manager will ensure that all vehicles are operating efficiently, comply with regulatory requirements, and support business operations effectively. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a passion for optimizing logistics and transportation systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fleet Operations Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the vehicle fleet, including procurement, utilization, and decommissioning.
- Maintain optimal vehicle inventory levels to meet operational needs.
- Maintenance and Compliance:
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend vehicle lifespan.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state (Rhode Island), and local transportation regulations, including vehicle registration, inspections, and licensing.
- Budget and Cost Management:
- Manage fleet budgets, including fuel, repairs, insurance, and leasing costs.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining high operational standards.
- Safety and Training:
- Enforce safety protocols for drivers and vehicles.
- Organize regular training sessions for drivers, focusing on safety, fuel efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
- Technology Integration:
- Implement fleet management software to track vehicle performance, maintenance, and driver behavior.
- Use data analytics to improve efficiency and decision-making.
- Vendor and Supplier Management:
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers for fuel, maintenance services, and vehicle purchases or leases.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors to ensure timely service and quality products.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise and support drivers, mechanics, and other team members.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and ensure team alignment with company goals.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in logistics, transportation management, business administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years in fleet management, logistics, or a related role.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in fleet management software and systems.
- Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and repair processes.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret data and KPIs to improve fleet performance and cost-efficiency.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise with drivers, vendors, and management.
- Leadership: Proven experience in managing teams and fostering a positive, productive work environment.
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Rhode Island state transportation laws and regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and handle multiple responsibilities.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
