Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
Location: Houston, TX | Full-Time | Clinical Lab Testing | ASCP Required
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join our clinical lab team. This role is responsible for performing moderate and high-complexity testing, ensuring the accuracy of patient results, and maintaining the highest standards in quality control and laboratory compliance.
What You’ll Do
- Perform routine testing in Chemistry, Hematology, and Urinalysis
- Prepare and evaluate peripheral blood smears, including complete WBC differentials on normal and abnormal specimens
- Process and manage send-out and reflex lab testing
- Follow QA/QC procedures in compliance with COLA regulations
- Operate and maintain analyzers and other lab equipment: calibrate, troubleshoot, and complete preventative maintenance
- Assist in special procedures (e.g., bone marrow aspirations/biopsies) as needed
- Participate in proficiency testing at least annually
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient results, equipment logs, and laboratory records
- Ensure safety and cleanliness in the laboratory per infection-control and hazardous waste protocols
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality at all times
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support inter- and intra-departmental workflows
✅ Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science-related field (required)
- ASCP certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) (required)
- Minimum 1 year of clinical lab experience as an MLS or MLT
- Proficient in manual differentials and venipuncture
- Comfortable with clinical lab testing procedures, chemistry techniques, and lab analyzers
- Strong documentation, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and lab databases
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
