Description
Under the direction of the Clinic Supervisor, the trainee will learn the ins and outs of being an Ophthalmic Technician in a retina setting. Including taking medical history, assessing visual acuity, performing diagnostic testing, and maintaining patient flow.
Responsibilities
- Promptly and professionally assist the doctor with patient care
- Perform technical workups, patient interviews, and special testing
- Exam workups & patient interviews
- Visual acuity testing
- Accurately and correctly perform OCT scans
- Accurately and correctly perform advanced photography imaging
- Accurately and correctly perform visual field testing
- Accurately and correctly perform an array of measurements and ophthalmic testing as requested by the physician
- Follows policy and procedures to instill eye drops and administer medications
- Perform eye irrigation according to physician’s order and written procedures
- Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, symptoms, surgery scheduling, etc
- Maintains and cleans all equipment being used, and reports to supervisor if not in working condition
- Returns phone calls to patients and pharmacies.
- Assists in minor surgery
- Maintains patient confidentiality
- Scribes readily when the doctor desires
- Attends required meetings
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- WPM: 55
