Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee payroll operations for unionized and non-union employees. This role ensures accuracy, compliance with regulations, and alignment with collective bargaining agreements. You will play a critical role in payroll system optimization, policy development, and collaboration with HR and Finance. The ideal candidate brings expertise in union payroll management, strong analytical skills, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing & Compliance:
- Manage end-to-end payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulations.
- Interpret and apply collective bargaining agreements, including wage scales and benefits.
- Handle payroll adjustments and union fringe reporting.
System Management & Optimization:
- Optimize payroll systems and workflows for efficiency.
- Conduct payroll audits and address discrepancies.
- Update and maintain union wage comparisons and compliance reports.
Collaboration & Reporting:
- Partner with HR and Finance on payroll-related reconciliation, budgeting, and reporting.
- Provide clear employee communication regarding payroll policies.
Team Leadership:
- Lead and develop the payroll team to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Set performance goals and foster a collaborative environment.
Additional Duties:
- Support audits and resolve trust fund payment discrepancies.
- Stay current on industry best practices and legislative changes.
- Contribute to organizational objectives through proactive learning and development.
Requirements
- Experience: 5 years in payroll, including 2 years in a supervisory role with union payroll experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in payroll software/HRIS (e.g., Paylocity, ADP); advanced Excel skills.
- Knowledge: Expertise in collective bargaining agreements, labor laws, and payroll regulations.
- Attributes: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills; effective communication abilities.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, HR, or related field.
Physical Requirements
- Office-based role with extended periods of sitting or standing.
