We are a trucking company in Minnesota seeking a Dispatcher to join our team. This is a confidential search, and more information about the organization will be shared during the interview process.
Position Summary
This role ensures the safe and efficient operations of all drivers each day. The Dispatcher is responsible for utilizing tools and technology to achieve efficient and timely dispatch operations while upholding safety standards and company values. The position leads the dispatch function within a specific geographic scope.
The role requires collaboration with internal and external teams to ensure cargo moves efficiently and cost-effectively. It also involves building and maintaining strong relationships with the dispatch team and driving fleet. The Dispatcher will review and address service failures to prevent future issues and ensure corrective action is taken.
The Dispatcher must proactively communicate to minimize controllable service exceptions and costs, identify opportunities for appointment adjustments, and coordinate across departments to optimize driver utilization and on-time performance. Expertise in governmental regulatory rules for overweight, out-of-gauge, and hazardous cargo is essential, as well as a proven ability to monitor and meet performance and financial metrics.

- Prior experience in logistics, intermodal drayage, dispatch, transportation, or customer service (preferred but not required)
Duties and Responsibilities
Dispatch Operations & Oversight
- Knowledge of safety practices, delivery areas, steamship lines, rail yards, chassis pools, and charges associated with non-compliance.
- Efficiently operate dispatch software and utilize technology to streamline dispatch processes.
- Manage driver relations and communications for both regular business and emergency assistance.
- Communicate effectively with driver support to address and resolve driver needs.
- Assist customer service in ensuring client needs are met and maintaining strong customer relationships.
- Handle time-appointment setups, delivery notifications, and timely paperwork for invoicing, driver settlements, and updates.
- Hold drivers accountable for required paperwork before dispatching future loads.
- Manage yard operations, including equipment reconciliation, cleanliness, organization, and compliance with company and customer expectations.
- Optimize profitability and control costs through dispatch best practices, such as reducing empty miles, improving utilization, and maximizing revenue per truck per day.
- Act as a team player and foster collaboration.
- Apply sound judgment in daily decision-making and prioritize tasks effectively.
Collaboration and Leadership
- Work with the Central Operations Manager to enhance company operations, including dispatch, customer service, planning, and driver support.
- Address driver matters escalated beyond driver support, collaborating with the Central Operations Manager, Human Resources, and Safety teams.
- Represent the dispatch function in management meetings and relay relevant information to appropriate stakeholders.
- Establish and track monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals related to moves, truck counts, revenue, and cost reduction.
- Maintain a focus on company goals, values, and long-term planning.
- Use key performance indicators to measure and monitor progress.
Safety
- Delegate safety-related tasks to appropriate team members.
- Provide monthly safety communications and training to drivers.
- Monitor and improve safety scores for the terminal and the company.
- Collaborate with the Terminal Manager on driver safety concerns, including log violations, speeding, and critical events.
- Ensure compliance with hours-of-service regulations for safe driver dispatching.
- Document safety discussions with drivers and stay educated on pre-trip inspections and training.
- Monitor key safety indicators such as violations, log errors, and claims or crashes at the terminal level.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
