JOB SUMMARY: A Technical Sales Representative will focus on expanding our customer base, nurturing client relationships, and accurately preparing cost estimates for manufacturing projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of fabrication and machining processes, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to drive business growth.
Responsibilities of a Technical Sales Representative:
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities to generate leads and secure contracts.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential customers.
- Conduct market research to identify trends and opportunities in the manufacturing sector.
- Collaborate with internal teams to create and present proposals to clients.
- Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities.
- Review customer specifications, drawings, and project requirements to prepare accurate cost estimates.
- Analyze material, labor, equipment, and overhead costs to develop competitive quotes.
- Work closely with the production team to ensure estimates align with shop capabilities and production timelines.
- Assist with creating and negotiating contracts with clients.
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to sales and estimating.
- Stay up to date with industry standards, technologies, and competitive practices.
- Actively participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities, including workshops, seminars, and certification programs to enhance job-related skills and knowledge, as required.
- Perform all other duties as assigned or required to support the team's goals and maintain efficient office operations.
Qualifications for a Technical Sales Representative:
- 3 years of experience in business development, sales, or estimating in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
- In-depth knowledge of fabrication, machining processes, and materials.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical documents.
- Experience with estimating software and customer relationship management (CRM) tools.
- Effective verbal communication and the ability to navigate the office environment, including reaching, bending, or climbing small steps if needed.
- Valid driver’s license for site visits and client meetings.
- Willingness to travel for customer visits and industry events.
