The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient transport of patients to and from medical facilities. This role includes direct interaction with patients and caregivers, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, maintaining the operational readiness of transport vehicles, and supervising other drivers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Pick up patients at home or other facilities, providing necessary assistance to ensure safe boarding for patients and caregivers.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of wheelchair lifters and vehicles, ensuring proper operation and safety of all passengers.
- Ensure that wheelchairs and passengers are securely fastened before departing and assist patients in exiting the vehicle upon arrival at medical facilities.
- Inspect the vehicle post-transport to ensure no personal items are left behind.
- Administer first aid or CPR when necessary, and communicate with emergency personnel and dispatchers as required.
- Complete detailed reports at the end of each shift, documenting any incidents or issues.
- Immediately report traffic accidents, request police or ambulance services, and assist injured persons using first-aid supplies until help arrives.
- Oversee and coordinate the activities of other drivers, providing guidance and support to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Maintain regular contact with the Transportation Supervisor regarding schedule changes and driver performance.
- Conduct daily checks of the van to ensure it is mechanically sound and clean.
- Work flexible shifts as required, accommodating the demands of the transportation schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, team members, and other drivers.
- High reliability and independence, with the ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
Education and Experience:
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting, such as a physician’s office or hospital, or in patient transportation.
- Strong customer service skills.
Language Skills:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Valid Florida driver's license with an excellent driving history.
- CPR certification is a plus; must complete CPR training within 6 months of employment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and position patients frequently.
- Capability to perform reaching, stooping, and bending as required.
- Adequate hearing and vision abilities (corrected) for safe driving and patient interaction.
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and handle emergency situations.
