VP Finance CFO Job Description
A strongly capitalized commercial real estate investment & rental company headquartered in Victoria, Texas, seeks an experienced accountant for the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) position.
Position Summary:
The CFO will be an independent leader in the organization reporting directly to the Chairman of the Board. The CFO will be in charge of finances and responsible for all accounting (excluding income tax accounting). The position will include real estate lease analysis for tenant payments, managing and reporting on all fiscal affairs of the organization including cash and investment management, budgeting and forecasting, and managing the day-to-day accounting operations.
Although proper accrual accounting will be important, the most important component of the position may likely involve business analysis and personal relationships including assisting with negotiations. Outside accountants will provide income tax and franchise tax work.
Finance Management and Reporting Responsibilities:
· Oversee organizational accounting and cash management to ensure accurate reporting, interpretation, and analysis of financial results.
· Develop and complete timely financial statements and report on transactions and/or information requests
· Manage and monitor the organization’s cash flow and capital needs.
· Assist in establishing rent rates and vendor contracts.
· Establish and maintain controls to safeguard assets; document and recommend improvements to internal financial policies and procedures
· Manage day-to-day operations that include, but are not limited to, month/year-end close, accounts receivable & payable, financial reports, payroll, invoicing, cash receipts, and disbursements.
Real Estate Development and Asset Management:
- Participate in annual insurance renewals
- Analysis of Texas Appraisal District property tax assessments and communications with Appraisal Districts; assist with determination of accurate real estate valuations including preparation of income approach to valuation, and participating with Appraisal District negotiations and property tax protests
- Work closely with the organization Attorneys on real estate buy/sell transactions and lease analysis including study and review of rent rates, profitability, valuation issues
- Assist in strategic real estate portfolio management including analysis of properties to buy and properties to sell
- Responsible for calculating and preparing any applicable reports for triple net expense reimbursements from tenants
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated relevant finance and accounting experience; real estate and rental experience or banking experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or MBA in Finance or Accounting. Familiarity with commercial real estate preferred
- Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, accurate, well-organized written financial reports and to communicate verbally in an effective and concise manner
- Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly with Excel, and accounting software programs
- Supervisory experience is preferred
- Strong communication skills and ability to negotiate, and work with people is essential
- Independent thinking
Job Type: Although generally an 8 to 5 full-time position is standard (partly due to the need to supervise some personnel and be available to assist in questions) the company has flexibility on hours and days. Flexible days and hours and amount of vacation time are negotiable and subject to discussion to accommodate a qualified applicant’s personal needs.
