Summary
A Home Infusion Nurse (RN) is a highly skilled nurse responsible for facilitating the clinical management of patients being infused with biologic therapy agents, intravenous fluids and other medications in their home. The Home Infusion RN is responsible for insertion of peripheral IVs and the nursing management of central lines. The nurse provides direct patient care; consults with physicians, pharmacists and nurses; and assists with patient/family education, care coordination and symptom management of patients that are treated in the home. This position will work in collaboration with all members of the healthcare team to achieve the best possible outcomes for the patient. This position involves providing care to patients in their homes. Duties include PICC line care and dressing changes, port care, IVIG/biologic medication administration, PIV medication administration, blood draws, teach and train on self-medication administration, and other similar duties. The employee will be responsible for the transport of supplies and medications. This position requires a reliable vehicle appropriate for all weather conditions. The employee will also be required to follow proper cleaning protocols.

Essential Functions
- Performs and documents a nursing assessment prior to each infusion or treatment per policy and procedure of the medical center.
- One-on-one Home Infusion Therapy in the home.
- Has knowledge of each agent infused including potential drug toxicities and side effects, proper methods of administration, and related interventions.
- Safely prepares infusion and pump set-up for each drug that is infused, including patient teaching when self administration of the drug occurs.
- Follows parental administration policy and procedure of the medical center for the medications given, including central and peripherally administered.
- Monitors patient during and if applicable after the infusion, observing for any untoward effects.
- Provides patient and family teaching about treatment and side effects in collaboration with the other members of the healthcare team.
- Assists in developing and/or enhancing patient education materials.
- Follows all policy and procedures of the medical center related to verification of orders and products when administering chemotherapy, biotherapy and other infusion agents.
- Demonstrates ability to effectively intervene with a patient in crisis, monitor for hypersensitivity reactions.
- Demonstrates an awareness of the potentially hazardous nature of many of the agents administered and follows safe handling and disposal policy and procedures of the medical center.
- Properly prepares and protects patients and families during infusions when indicated.
- Follows infection control policy and procedures of the organization.
- Follows universal precautions.
- Communicates patient symptoms, concerns and/or reactions to Home Infusion Team and/or ordering physician.
- Provides psychosocial support to patients and families.
- Follows policy and procedures for safe and sterile transport of infusion medication.
- Maintain knowledge of current knowledge of INS standards.
- Follows policy and procedures for IV and Central Lines of medical center.
- Utilizes home infusion pumps and technology to administer medications and patient training.
Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.
Qualifications
Required:
- RN Current licensure in the state of Washington (RCW 18.88) or licensure through Multistate Nurse Licensure Compact (SSB 5499).
- Current BLS Health Provider card.
- Excellent IV skills and experience.
- Infusion or Emergency room experience or comparable experience responding to hypersensitivity or anaphylactic reactions.
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, family members and staff.
- Ability to work under pressure related to work/time deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and use critical thinking skills.
- Competent in basic computer skills.
- WA Driver’s License and reliable automobile.
- Proof of personnel vehicle insurance.
Desired:
- CRNI certification, or active pursuit upon hire
- Current ACLS certification
