Job Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides essential support to patients and healthcare professionals by assisting with daily living activities, monitoring patient health, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating.
- Monitor and report changes in patients’ physical and emotional conditions to the nursing staff.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to patients.
Vital Signs and Health Monitoring:
- Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration.
- Assist with routine medical tests and procedures as directed by healthcare professionals.
Assisting Healthcare Professionals:
- Support registered nurses and other healthcare professionals in delivering care.
- Prepare and maintain patient rooms, including changing linens and ensuring cleanliness.
- Assist with patient mobility and transfers, including using assistive devices as needed.
Documentation and Communication:
- Accurately document patient care and observations in patient records.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to provide updates and address concerns.
Safety and Infection Control:
- Follow all safety and infection control protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to hygiene standards.
Qualifications:
· Certification: Must hold a current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification as required by state regulations.
· Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a CMA training program.
· Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred but not always required.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to handle physical and emotional demands of the job.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
- Compassionate and patient-centred approach to care.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move patients, often weighing more than 50 pounds.
