Job Requirements
The Lean Plant Designer is responsible for designing, optimizing, and improving manufacturing plant layouts and processes using Lean Manufacturing principles. This role focuses on waste reduction, efficiency improvement, and workspace optimization while ensuring compliance with HSE and quality standards. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance production flow, reduce costs, and improve overall plant efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Plant Layout & Process Design:
Develop and implement efficient plant layouts that enhance workflow and minimize waste. Utilize Lean tools (e.g., Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Kaizen, Kanban) to optimize material flow and space utilization. Design ergonomic and safe workstations to improve operator efficiency.
Modify existing plant layouts to accommodate new products, equipment, or process changes.
Lean Manufacturing Implementation:
Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to eliminate waste and improve productivity. Lead initiatives such as Just-In-Time (JIT) inventory management, Single-Minute Exchange of Die (SMED), and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). Support Continuous Improvement (CI) projects to enhance plant efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to align plant design with operational goals. Facilitate Lean training and workshops for plant employees. Partner with suppliers and contractors to ensure equipment and layout modifications meet requirements.
Data Analysis & Performance Improvement:
Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies. Conduct time studies, motion analysis, and workflow assessments. Recommend process improvements based on data-driven insights.
Compliance & Safety:
Ensure plant layouts comply with safety, ergonomic, and regulatory standards. Collaborate with EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) teams to create a safe working environment.
Work Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in plant layout design, Lean Manufacturing, or industrial engineering.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other CAD software for layout design.
- Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools and methodologies.
- Experience in process mapping, time studies, and workflow optimization.
Preferred:
- Certification in Lean Manufacturing (e.g., Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher).
- Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments (e.g., Oil and Gas).
- Knowledge of simulation software for plant layout optimization.
