Job Title: Custodian - Maintenance
Position Summary:
Performs custodial duties, light repair work, room and event set preparation, and some food preparation. Routinely reviews building condition for maintenance items and reports to the Executive Director.
Work Schedule:
Regular hours Tuesday - Saturday 7am to 3:30pm, evenings and weekends for events as needed. Overtime hours are available. This a a full-time position, with paid time off and holidays.
Qualifications:
- Must be reliable
- Familiarity with basic handyman practices
- Experience as a custodian or similar role
- Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
- Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components
- Good physical condition, balance, agility and strength, ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to communicate effectively including following both oral and written instructions
- Ability to read a weekly building schedule and floor plans and work independently at times
- Courteous and respectful when interacting with our tenants, staff, clergy and congregants
Core Responsibilities:
- Perform custodial duties including vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, emptying trash, dusting, and sanitizing bathrooms on a daily basis.
- Perform some grounds maintenance including watering plants, leaf removal at entrances, monitoring and treating icy conditions on our walkways and parking areas.
- Perform minor repairs including but not limited to painting, repairs of chairs and tables, leaking faucets, hanging art work, changing light bulbs and ceiling tiles etc.
- Assesses building condition and reports needs for major repairs to the Executive Director.
- Assists in checking building for safety hazards, reporting all deficiencies noted to the Executive Director.
- Monitor kitchen and cleaning supplies and requests purchases to the Administrative Assistant.
- Routinely clean and sanitize the kitchen after each use, by an internal committee or facility rental.
- Routinely cleans out the refrigerators, dishwasher basins, sink basins, ovens, microwave and any other kitchen appliances.
- Routinely organizes the kitchen and back kitchen storage areas.
- Prepare rooms for events and worship services including setting tables, chairs and any other items needed.
- Assists with setup for synagogue receptions, dinners, lunches, etc including preparing beverages (coffee, lemonade, water) and setting tables.
- Review room sets and upcoming events on a weekly basis with the Operations Coordinator and communicates needs to other custodial staff.
- Monitor the front desk during events adhering to our safety policy.
- Monitoring and controlling access to various parts of the building, areas should be locked when not in use.
- Perform any other task pertaining to the building assigned by the Executive Director.
- Opens and closes the building, securing doors, lights and disarming/setting the alarm following operational procedures.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 38 – 45 per week
