Congregational Home in Brookfield is currently hiring for two Chef positions:
- 1st Shift Chef: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
- 2nd Shift Chef: 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM

The Chef is responsible for the coordination of daily food production and culinary activities, menu planning, and estimating food requirements in relation with the food and costing, menu planning, and ordering items for the Nutrition Services Department, as needed. May prepare hot and cold foods, beverages, and snacks for residents, employees, and visitors.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Orders and receives frozen, refrigerated, and non-perishable food and beverage products weekly from selected purveyors, following weekly and daily menu requirements and established department guidelines and procedures.
- Develops the weekly work schedules of Chefs and Sous Chefs; coordinates and assigns daily and miscellaneous work responsibilities. Trains food preparation personnel according to department procedures and guidelines.
- Communicates and/or meets with residents, guests, and Foodservice Aides to plan and coordinate special events, holiday menus, and weekly cycle menus utilizing product promotions, seasonal items, and residents’ requests.
- On a weekly basis, organizes food storage areas to maximize storage space, ensure proper product rotation, and proper sanitation and temperature control of food storage areas.
- Supervises proper sanitation practices, maintains organization and cleanliness of work areas, and maintains safe food-handling techniques and proper personal hygiene.
- Reviews and posts general daily menus, therapeutic and texture-modified diets for residents on restricted diets, makes menu adjustments as necessary, and plans the cooking schedule of the day with modifications, if necessary.
- Observes, tastes, and smells all food products and prepared foods to ensure excellent quality and desired flavors, textures, and appearance.
- Meets weekly with Nutrition Services Director to communicate menu planning, staffing needs, sanitation, nutrition, as well as all other concerns that affect the Foodservice Department.
- Attends hospitality trade shows and seminars to study current and future trends in wholesale and retail food merchandising and presentation and dietary/nutrition updates.
Performs all other miscellaneous duties and special projects as assigned in accordance with department policies and guidelines.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Associate Degree in Food Preparation or Culinary Arts
Minimum of 3 years of health care cooking experience
