Congregation Keneseth Israel (KI), a vibrant reform congregation of 250 families in Allentown, PA is seeking a part-time custodian. The KI custodial position is a support staff role with some congregant interactions. The ideal candidate is someone with a high degree of initiative, attention to detail, and willing to provide innovative solutions. The candidate is focused on executing tasks within a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly routine, while managing an array of building related projects.
Custodian Duties and Responsibilities
Keeps building and property in clean and orderly condition through existing or improved systems.
This includes, but not regulated to, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, full detailing of bathrooms, dusting of sills, walls, furniture, windows, mirrors, and other shiny surfaces.
Performs routine maintenance activities.
Manages inventory of cleaning supplies, to include implementing a supply check list for ordering. Communicates need for repairs needing to be outsourced
Prepares space(s) for daily, weekly, monthly and special events, including table and chair set-ups.
Other duties instructed by the Executive Director otherwise not listed.
The position is under 35 hours a week with the potential for full-time, paid vacation, no medical or dental benefits. Schedule is semi regular, with flexibility around special events, including most Sunday mornings from September through May. Starting rate of pay is 16.25
Custodian Qualifications / Skills:
Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures
Ability to stand, walk, and bend for many hours
Ability to perform repetitive motion for long periods of time
Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions
Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules
Ability to lift 40lb minimum, climb ladders up to 10ft and work at particular heights
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Basic math skills
Previous experience encouraged, not required.
Understanding of Judaism helpful, not required.
