What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Nurse position at Congressional School?
Congressional Camp seeks a Nurse to work full-time for approximately two months from mid-June to mid-August. The Camp Nurse works with school and camp administration to provide a healthy and safe environment for all students, campers, and staff. The Nurse administers primary care nursing to ill and injured students and employees in addition to providing assessment, examination, referral and follow-up according to policies and procedures. The Nurse will also administer medications as prescribed, provide first aid as necessary, and document care according to school policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide nursing care to ill or injured students, campers, and employees
- Evaluate student and camper physical condition and refer appropriate resources as needed
- Provide first aid care and medically prescribed support and/or services
- Provide follow-up evaluations and care as needed
- Negotiate professional and medical services essential to the school health program
- Maintain records of immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data
- Coordinate school and community health activities and serves as a liaison health professional between home, school and community
- Serve as primary resource for health-related questions
- Promote control of communicable diseases
- Manage health records in accordance with all federal, state, and county regulations.
- Provide support for work-related injuries
- Ensure best practices are used so that all licensing standards are met
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children and their families
- Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment and a commitment to cultural competency
- Understand and comply with OSHA regulations pertaining to independent schools and camp
REQUIREMENTS
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Experience working with children from 6 weeks to 14 years of age
- Knowledge of principles and practices of the field of school health and nursing.
- Knowledge of current trends in school nursing
- Knowledge of health-related support organizations and resources
- Familiarity with federal and local laws relating to health and social issues
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
