Congressman Himes – Outreach Manager position
Reporting to the District Director, the Outreach Manager is responsible for staffing and leading outreach efforts for Congressman Himes during his time in Connecticut. The staffer works closely with district office colleagues and the DC-based scheduler and Communications Team to build high-visibility events and geographically-efficient meetings during district work periods. Planning successful press conferences, small business tours, classroom visits, and other public events requires securing an appropriate location, inviting state and local officials, and compiling briefing information.
Additionally, the staffer is sometimes responsible for representing the Congressman and speaking on his behalf. The staffer is responsible for district-focused communications, and is responsible for drafting personalized notes to constituents and letters requested by local organizations.
Key Job Functions:
· Assists in the coordination of the Congressman's calendar, building high-visibility events and geographically-efficient meetings;
· Keeps the Member and District Director up to date on local and state issues by screening Connecticut media and interacting with community leaders;
· Liaison to local and state leaders, key organizations and relevant advocacy groups to form effective relationships for the member;
· Plans and implements new outreach strategies, working with legislative staff to highlight Congressional accomplishments;
· Drafts certificates, letters and notes to be reviewed by the district director and signed by the Congressman;
· Handles follow-up of meetings, working across teams on legislative and casework matters;
· Works with communications staff and district colleagues to plan press conferences and coordinate local media coverage;
· Prepares memos for the Member and District Director regarding local and state issues;
· Maintains a flexible schedule, including some long hours, night and weekends, with frequent driving;
· Stays up to date with emerging social media practices and opportunities
