Job Title: Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist
Summary: We are seeking a skilled Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist to review medical records, improve physician documentation, and facilitate accurate MS-DRG assignment. The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge of clinical documentation requirements, disease pathophysiology, and MS-DRG classification.
Responsibilities:
- Record Review: Conduct initial medical record reviews within 24-48 hours of admission, evaluating documentation for accuracy and assigning principal diagnoses, secondary diagnoses, and procedures.
- Professional Development: Stay current with AHA coding guidelines, CMS directives, and ICD-9-CM/CPT updates, attending mandatory seminars and quarterly review sessions.
- CDI Activities: Communicate and complete CDI activities, resolving coding issues and improving documentation quality.
- Training and Support: Assist in training new staff members on CDI processes and collaborate with case managers, nursing staff, and physicians to resolve queries and improve documentation.
Requirements:
- Education: Preferred: Graduate from a Health Information Management program or nursing degree.
- Experience: Preferred: Two (2) or more years of relevant experience in CDI or a related field.
- Certifications: Preferred: RHIT, RHIA, LPN, MD, AAPC, CCS, CDIP, or CCDS.
Working Conditions:
The selected candidate will be able to sit for extended periods, efficiently use a computer keyboard and mouse, and maintain good visual acuity.
This position may require national travel up to 10% of the time.
