What are the responsibilities and job description for the AET R&D Co-op - Early Stage Development position at CONMED Corporation?
As an R&D Engineering Co-op for Advanced Endoscopic Technologies (AET) on the technical development team, you will work with a close-knit team of engineers on early-stage prototypes and concepts for the next generation of devices for gastroenterology. Your primary role will be to support our technical development team, which researches and designs early-stage prototypes for projects under consideration for development. You will work side-by-side with our engineering and marketings teams to build and test prototypes, assessing technical feasibility. As a co-op, you will learn through hands-on application of engineering principles and methodologies, including design in Solidworks, 3D printing, fabrication, and test method development. In addition to early-stage development, you will support, as needed, development and post-launch engineering projects. This could include test method validation, design verification and validation testing, and drawing updates. Our current portfolio of products includes patient monitoring products and both disposable and capital products for endoscopy. You will be given a large amount of autonomy in this role and will often have to solve problems with minimal oversight/ guidance. Being an independent thinker is a must for this position. Responsibilities: • Build prototypes using 3D printing, laser welding, prototype molding, micro assembly, and a variety of other hands-on approaches • Develop fixturing/instrumentation to execute tests using injection molding, additive manufacturing (3D printing, metal laser sintering) using 3D modeling(SolidWorks) • Learn key GI anatomy and surgical practices in flexible endoscopy • Conduct and support product verification testing • Design test and product specifications based on benchtop testing and clinician feedback • Work with Sales and Marketing teams to define customer needs, develop ergonomic solutions and gain feedback • Review test specifications, procedures and process instructions • Author and/or assist in the creation of new test methods and protocols • Work in a team to support engineering efforts, propose and implement technical solutions • Work with design, manufacturing, and quality engineers to bring novel concepts from idea to production • Research and test new equipment and materials for concept development & prototyping Position Requirements: • Pursuing completion of a bachelors or masters degree in a related field, such as mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics; must have a strong focus on mechanical systems/design • Must be available to work onsite out of the Westborough, MA site, 40 hours/week, Monday – Friday throughout the co-op program (July 2025 – December 2025) Preferred Qualifications: • Design experience (fixtures, products, test rigs); knowledge of tolerances and manufacturing methods • 3 months prior internship experience Disclosure as required by applicable law, the hourly pay rate range for this position is $22 to $32. The actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education and skill level. The hourly pay rate range is CONMED’s good faith belief at the time of this posting.
