Conn Kavanaugh seeks an enthusiastic, bright, and engaged Legal Assistant for a busy Family Law Practice. Ideal candidate is polished and professional, computer savvy with strong writing and interpersonal skills, and takes pride in ensuring client and attorney satisfaction. Candidate must be comfortable working independently and / or within a group and performing multiple activities under tight deadlines.
Other responsibilities include the following :
Transcribing, editing, and proofreading letters and legal documents
Editing and posting bills
Managing all of the filing for a paper-intensive practice
Maintaining contacts and calendars
Friendly and professional client contact
Prioritizing assignments with minimal direction
Assumes additional responsibilities as requested
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
Experience with MS Office Suite software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Ability to work overtime on occasion

POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position will provide secretarial and administrative support to the head of the Family Law department. Will be responsible for adhering to the Firm’s core values and must display professionalism, quality service and a “can do” attitude to internal members of the firm as well as external clients over the telephone and in person. Other responsibilities include the following :
Client Relations :
Conveys information and relays messages in a professional manner; provides information as appropriate.
May receive and direct clients and visitors.
Document Preparation :
From handwritten notes, transcribing equipment, drafts or oral instructions, types a variety of correspondence, memoranda and legal documents required by the attorneys to whom assigned.
Proofreads, photocopies, assembles and distributes prepared materials as necessary.
Creates (types), scans, and revises a variety of documents.
Originates correspondence as directed, reviews and routes incoming correspondence.
Prepare statements for billing to be sent to clients for services rendered.
Prepares and revises pleadings and other documents filed with the court. Understands and follows through with filing process, including manual filings and any e-filing process the court may require or as directed by the attorney / paralegal to whom assigned.
Maintains client files in accordance with Firm filing procedures.
Technology :
Proficient in advanced word processing, spreadsheets, practice support systems. MS Office Suite software (Word, Excel, and Outlook), Surepoint, Netdocuments, Etc.
Misc. Responsibilities :
Calendars due dates, meetings and deadlines.
Creates and maintains files and indexes.
Screens and routes telephone calls.
Answer telephones and perform other administrative tasks from time to time.
May prepare lunch and coffee set ups for mediations.
Provides backup assistance within the department as requested.
