Accounting Manager – Growing Chicago Office (Hybrid)
Our client, a rapidly growing company expanding its Chicago office, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Accounting Manager to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a strong accounting background and leadership experience to play a key role in shaping financial operations in a growth-focused environment.
The ideal candidate will bring 7 years of progressive accounting experience and have successfully managed a team of 3–4 accounting professionals. This role follows a hybrid work schedule, with 3 days per week in-office. Salary range based on experience $125,000-$140,000.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, including analysis and explanations of balance sheet and income statement variances.
- Prepare, review, and distribute monthly financial statements.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of regulatory filings.
- Research complex technical accounting matters to ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Generate and review general ledger account reconciliations on a monthly basis.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local reporting and tax requirements.
- Develop and document accounting policies and procedures to improve internal controls and operational efficiency.
- Manage, mentor, and develop team members through coaching, training, and performance feedback.
- Collaborate cross-functionally and support the accounting team as needed, with opportunities to take on greater responsibilities as the company grows.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including management responsibilities.
- Proven experience leading a successful accounting team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding and application of GAAP and internal control best practices.
- Solid experience in preparing financial statements, managing general ledger activity, and overseeing month-end/year-end close.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a client-focused, collaborative approach.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to adapt and drive change.
