Position Summary: The ESL Instructor will provide high-quality English language instruction to our Ukrainian clients. The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse populations, be culturally sensitive, and adaptable to the unique needs of adult learners from different backgrounds.
Essential Job Functions
- Deliver tailored ESL instruction for students from the Ukrainian community focusing on beginner to advanced proficiency levels and addressing skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
- Collaborate with other ESL Teachers, to design and implement lesson plans that are engaging, interactive, and suited to the literacy levels, educational backgrounds, and individual learning styles of students.
- Evaluate student progress through assessments and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in language skills.
- Create an inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and builds student confidence, fostering collaboration and interaction among peers.
- Collaborate with case managers and program staff to understand the needs of students, providing resources and support that enhance their learning and integration experience.
- Incorporate cultural orientation and life skills training into the curriculum, such as job searching, navigating healthcare systems, and accessing community resources.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, student progress, and outcomes for program reporting purposes.
- Support additional language development opportunities, including conversation practice, tutoring, and participation in community events.
- Stay current on best practices in ESL education and participate in professional development to continually enhance teaching effectiveness.
- Classes may be conducted in person, online, or in a hybrid format based on the needs of the program.
- The schedule may include evening or weekend classes to accommodate the availability of students.
- Some travel between program sites and community partner locations may be required.
- Experience working with migrant populations and a strong understanding of the challenges faced by the Ukrainian community resettled in the Stamford/Norwalk area.
- Ability to speak Ukrainian or Russian, strongly preferred
- Proficiency in digital tools and online learning platforms to support both in-person and remote instruction.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
- A background in adult education, ESL instruction, or a related field is preferred.
