Job Summary:
The MRI Authorization Specialist position focuses on obtaining MRI orders from a centralized database and communicating with insurance companies to receive authorization for internal and external MRI services. In addition, the position supports other elements of the department when required.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Management of MRI orders
- Communicating with insurance companies to obtain authorization for MRI services
- Navigating insurance challenges to obtain MRI authorization
- Frequent utilization of phones
- Documentation in department database to track and communicate the status of an authorization and scheduled appointments
- Operation of computer and its applications to meet job expectations
- Performs other duties as assigned by their supervisor
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively across the department
- Time management
- Knowledge of MRI services and clearances to obtain exam
- Strong aptitude in the use of computer applications
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
Experience/Educational requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Minimum 1 year Medical authorizations required
Minimum 1 year of experience in a clinical setting
Medical terminology preferred
Knowledge of MRI services preferred but not required
