Position Summary:

The Dean of Campus Administration, Facilities, and Operations, Naugatuck Valley Campus, oversees the day-to-day campus environment and provides leadership, general direction, and administration of the campus facilities, maintenance, and custodial services, 110 acres of grounds/40 developed, 750,000 square feet of plant operations on the Waterbury campus, financial support services, information technology services, emergency preparedness, and auxiliary services (e.g., campus public safety, campus bookstore, food services).

Additionally, the Dean of Campus Administration, Facilities, and Operations coordinates the campus facility planning and construction program activities, provides liaison with contractors, and advises the CEO and other top-level college official on immediate and mid- to long-term deferred maintenance and repair projects and tracks bond funding expenditures and monitors the program to ensure appropriate use.

The Dean of Campus Administration, Facilities, and Operations helps the CEO manage the overall budget and serves as a liaison with appropriate local, State, and College officials.

Among key managerial effectiveness areas, representing the output requirements of this position, are:

  • Budget preparation and fiscal management
  • Internal financial information
  • Annual audit support
  • Facilities operation, improvement, and acquisition
  • Equipment procurement/fixed asset management for two campuses
  • Emergency preparedness/campus safety for two campuses
  • Information services/internal communications
  • CSCU/College financial relationships
  • Operation of auxiliary services
  • Coordination of campus purchasing and contracting requirements with shared service organization 
  • Coordination of campus data required for shared payroll organization
  • Project management, including but not limited to deferred maintenance, major repairs, etc.
  • Buildings and grounds operations for 750K square feet/110 acres (40 developed) in Waterbury and materials and supplies needs for the 25K square foot Danbury campus
  • Serves as contract repository
  • Coordination with Campus Dean of Faculty classroom accessibility
  • Ensures environmental health and safety compliance

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the President/CEO or other administrator, the Dean of Campus Administration, Facilities, and Operations, is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the campus through effective performance in these essential functional areas:

  • Budget and Fiscal Management
    • Accountable for assisting with preparing and managing the campus budget and collaborating with the College to ensure efficient and effective performance of the campus.
  • Facilities and Capital Planning and Management
    • Accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the campus buildings, equipment and grounds and developing plans and capital budgets for the campus’ future facilities’ needs.
  • Campus Operations
    • Accountable for the safe and reliable operation of the campus’ facilities, equipment, and utilities.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Security
    • Accountable for campus safety and security and campus-wide emergency preparedness.
  • Business and Auxiliary Operations
    • Accountable for managing the services associated with business and auxiliary operations.
  • Consulting and Advisement
    • Accountable for consulting and advising with the CEO and serving as a liaison within the College.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in an appropriate field with five (5) or more years of experience in higher education or
academic administration, which includes three (3) years of experience in the supervision of others’ work or a combination of education, training, and experience that would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following:

  • Higher education administration
  • Supervision and training
  • Leadership and collaboration abilities
  • Advanced analytical and systems thinking skills
Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting institutions of higher education (e.g., technical colleges, community colleges, four-year colleges or universities, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience in emergency preparedness.

Starting Salary:

Minimum Salary; $119,245 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits. The salary will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications such as education and job-related experience, and internal equity.
