The Dean of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

Connecticut State Community College (CT State) seeks confidential applications and nominations for the position of the Dean of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The Dean of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics reports directly to the Provost, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Workforce Innovations of Connecticut State Community College, is a member of the Provost’s Leadership Team and the President’s Leadership Council. The successful candidate will need to manage seismic change within a large complex institution and be able to create an environment in which difficult conversations across programs, departments, and campuses can be honest, civil, and productive.

CT State was established on July 1, 2023, following a strategic decision by the Board of Regents to unify the state’s 12 community colleges into a single, student-centered institution. Today, CT State is Connecticut’s largest higher education institution and the largest community college in New England, serving more than 65,000 students through credit-bearing and non-credit programs across 12 campuses and more than 18 additional locations. This unification has expanded access to high-quality, affordable education while enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening long-term financial sustainability.

More than just a structural transformation, CT State’s unification under a single accreditation represents a commitment to equity, innovation, and student success—ensuring that every learner has the resources and opportunities to thrive. CT State is a member of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) system, which includes four state universities, a fully online college, and CT State. The system is governed by the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education.

The Dean of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), is responsible for the curriculum development and assessment of all STEM-related academic programs in accordance with Guided Pathways, and equity-minded principles, student outcomes, and the strategic direction, growth, and implementation of all programs in their academic portfolio. This is an opportunity for a seasoned, talented leader to be on the ground floor of a major redesign of higher education in the State of Connecticut that will have far-reaching implications for the community college sector for decades to come. STEM is home to 213 full-time faculty and 88 total programs with 31 externally accredited. The college also serves 7,500 credit and 2,100 non-credit students in STEM fields.
