School Summary:

Georgia Connections Academy is a tuition-free, full-time virtual school for students in grades K-12 throughout Georgia.  The school is authorized by the Georgia Charter Schools Commission and governed by an independent Board of Directors with a mission to maximize academic achievement for students seeking other educational options.  The school is operated by Georgia Connections Academy, a nonprofit corporation, through a contract with Connections Academy of Georgia, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services. Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED, and GACA is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement.

Position Summary and Responsibilities:

Working from our office in Duluth, Georgia, the Parent Engagement and Community Specialist will focus on engaging and connecting with families to strategically enhance parental involvement in educational initiatives through targeted marketing campaigns and communication strategies. 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other stakeholders to provide training, facilitate engagement, and promote effective communication practices between parents, teachers, and other support staff
  • Build and maintain ongoing professional relationships with community providers and community partners to support school initiatives and facilitate parent and/or staff training
  • Implement and lead parent involvement in in-person and virtual sessions, ensuring engagement from families
  • Improving and increasing the frequency of communication with families through designing and managing platforms, including Parentsquare, and Parent University
  • In collaboration with the Director of Federal Programs and Community Engagement, coordinate the implementation and monitoring of Parent Engagement events, Student Academic sessions, field trips, resources, and information
  • Working with parents/caretakers and the Parent Teacher Organization  to support classroom engagement and instruction
  • In collaboration with the Director of Federal Programs and Community Engagement work with the Pearson team to track and monitor the student/caretaker Facebook group and Learning Coach Central
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of external and internal marketing strategies and campaigns, making adjustments as needed to optimize engagement and participation to increase enrollment and connect with currently enrolled families
  • Create engaging content for marketing materials, including social media posts and website updates, to communicate program offerings and benefits to parents and staff effectively
  • Manages, Tracks, and posts internal engagement activities and participation for the district
  • Establish and maintain relationships with students,  families, and colleagues based on trust and respect and seek feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement
  • Participate in professional development and meetings, including district-required training
  • Support School events as needed
  • Other Duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Travel is required about 35% of the time (in addition to travel for state testing)
  • Highly qualified and certified Georgia Teacher and/or Counselor 
  • Must reside in the state of Georgia
  • Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Highly organized and punctual
  • Student and family-focused approach
  • A high degree of flexibility
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player track record
  • Strong interpersonal skills, which include the ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds
  • Willingness to travel for marketing and state testing events (may require occasional overnight travel)
  •     Willingness to make calls after hours to accommodate parents’ work schedule
  • Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support some families
  • Ability to work remotely, if necessary
