What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Specialist position at Connections For The Homeless?
Position Summary: The Facilities Specialist supports the overall operations of the agency. A weekly snapshot will primarily consist of performing nightly custodial responsibilities, inside and outside, at two of the agency’s facilities, as well as ad hoc maintenance and/or custodial needs at the agency’s Shelter. The schedule for this position is Sunday - Thursday, 12pm - 8pm.
The ideal candidate can safely lift and position up to 50 pounds. The job entails bending, kneeling and reaching, often in awkward or tiring positions. This individual is adaptable in a fast-paced atmosphere, works well in both an autonomous and team environment, and thrives on responsibilities that sustain a safe, well organized, growth-oriented, effective, and efficient operation.
Key Responsibility: Custodial Services (55%)
- Perform nightly routine cleaning responsibilities at two of the agency’s office and program workspaces, including but not limited to:
- Emptying trash/recycling and transporting to dumpster
- Sweeping and mopping floors
- Cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms and kitchens
- Proactively identify and report maintenance issues; addressing basic repairs (eg. lightbulb replacement, plunging toilet) when appropriate
- Complete on-going cleaning projects (eg. wash walls, dusting)
Key Responsibility: Maintenance Support (25%)
- Assist with carpet cleaning in Participant rooms at agency’s Shelter
- Assist and support the Facilities Manager with addressing Maintenance Requests and/or other building needs at any of agency’s facilities
Key Responsibility: Couriering Supplies (10%)
- Transport correspondence, supplies, and other goods between the agency’s three primary facilities

Knowledge, Skills Abilities
- Understanding of cleaning processes and procedures to maintain a safe and healthy environment
- Understanding of facility maintenance; basic knowledge of plumbing strongly preferred
- Understanding of safety practices to move bulk items to and from vehicles and within program facilities
- Demonstrate initiative represented by a sense of urgency, energy, enthusiasm, attention to detail, and follow up
- Exceptional work ethic, arriving on time and prepared to all assigned shifts, and track record of personal initiative and achievement
