What are the responsibilities and job description for the FT Senior Residence Worker, Justice (Surrey) position at Connective?
ROLE PURPOSE
This position will provide support during the pre-release planning and post-suspension processes relating to high risk offenders being released to the Connective Support Society operated Community Based Reintegration Facilities. The Senior Federal Residence Worker also works closely with the Case Management Team in developing strategies and interventions targeting clients’ risk and need areas and assists the Program Manager in providing orientation, training, work direction and guidance to residence workers to ensure the orderly and safe operation of the facility and maintain the goals of the federal programs.
This is a Criminal Justice Focused role.
STATUS AND CLASSIFICATION
This position is unionized and open to all genders.
HOURS (40 hours a week)
Sunday to Thursday, 1200 – 2000
Willingness to work flexible hours to meet program needs
REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports and is accountable to the Program Manager or their designate
Participates actively in house, staff, and staff/resident meetings
Participates as a member of the Connective staff team
Liaises with outside professionals from other agencies or government bodies as required
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Assists the supervisor in providing orientation, training, work direction and guidance to residence workers by performing duties such as clarifying program policies, reviewing work, and scheduling residence workers
Provides input to residence workers’ performance evaluations
May oversee the operation of the residence in the absence of the supervisor or as directed
Conducts regular prison visits to provide in-reach support and assistance in pre-release planning and post-suspension process for higher risk clients being released to Connective’s CBRFs.
Participates in the assessment, goal setting and program planning (Resident Actions Plan) for individuals living at the CBRF
Ensures that the Resident Actions Plans (RAP) are completed as per the guidelines, client and applicable members of the Case Management Team are consulted in the development of the RAP, and copies are shared and distributed in a timely manner including, input into OMS and hardcopy placed onto the resident’s file
Documents, implements and provides input into the evaluation of the program
Provides life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and personal finance and implements Resident Actions Plans (RAPs)
Participates in various client-focused activities in accordance with Resident Action Plans
Recognizes, analyzes and deals with risk-related concerns such as clients’ aggressive behaviour to ensure no harm comes to the client, staff, and/or the public.
Reports problems to the Residence Manager and the supervising Community Parole Officer (CPO) in a timely manner
Assists with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties
Provides supporting information to the Case Management Team with regard to the development of appropriate program plans to achieve residents’ and correctional objectives
Contributes to the evaluation of residents’ progress and provides input into reports
Reviews, completes, and distributes Incident Reports as required, ensuring all pertinent information is shared with residential staff, supervising Parole Officer, and Residence Manager in timely manner
Assists with CBRF compliance with ‘Statement of Work – Appendix D’ and reports any non-compliance issues to the Program Manager and/or his/her delegate without delay
Ensures clients are provided access to medication in accordance with established policy and appropriate logs are kept and shared as required
Provides emotional support and feedback to residents, their families, and community supports
Transports and assists residents to appointments, shopping or leisure activities
Performs maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment and food services
Maintains reports such as statistics, logbooks, case notes of daily activities, and Incident Reports on CAMS system with respect to residents
Identifies social economic, recreational and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs.
Maintains liaison with intra-agency staff and programs, as well as external community partners, agencies, professionals, governmental organizations and programs to support the clients plans and progress.
Performs other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Functions independently while on shift and adhere to Residence policy and Procedures
Works in a stressful environment, often dealing with clients in crisis situations
Demonstrates a level of physical fitness to effectively carry out the required duties of the program and to meet the operational needs of the residence
Is available to work all shifts, 7 days per week including day shifts, afternoon shifts and graveyard shifts
Provides appropriate personal transportation with required business insurance coverage to enable the movement of the worker and resident around the Lower Mainland as required by the goals of the program
Is a member of CUPE local 1936-11
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Graduate with a Diploma or Certificate with one year of related experience
Counselling experience in the appropriate field and demonstrate a clear ability to respond will in crisis situations
Demonstrated experience in an applicable residential setting
Demonstrated a good working knowledge of the technical details important to the functioning of group residences
Awareness of Correctional Services Canada (the contractor) concerns, laws and policies related to the specific residence program
Demonstrated the ability to teach skills and work effectively with others
Knowledge of theory, principles and practices in the fields related to the particular residence
Demonstrated a strong ability to deal with crisis situations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
REQUIREMENTS
Ability to successfully complete a Security Clearance and Criminal Records Check
Current Emergency First Aid Certificate
Class 5 driver’s license
Personal transportation that is in good repair, insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability, and which can be used to transport clients
This role is 12-18 months temp coverage with an on call component.
COMPENSATION
As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $29.17 per hour. The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $33.49 per hour.
